If you have played the original Dead Space, then you know how horrifying it is to face the Hunter, a regenerating Necromorph that does not die no matter how many times you cut off its limbs.
The original game does not go into detail on the origins of the Hunter, which isn’t really a big deal. But, the remake does. In the remake, we get official confirmation on who the Hunter was in its previous life, and how it came to be in the side mission, Premeditated Malpractice.
This guide will be showing you how to complete the side mission.
Dead Space Remake 2023 – Premediated Malpractice
Premedicated Malpractice can be started in Chapter 6 and can be finished as early as Chapter 7. However, you should complete this side mission before you leave Ishimura, which is in Chapter 11.
If you don’t, then the quest will remain unfinished as the game finishes.
Collect the Tissue Sample and Scan It
To start the side mission, you first need to complete Chapter 5.
After freezing the Hunter and Chapter 6 starts, exit the room and go back to where you lead the Hunter into. There, you will find a piece of tissue that belongs to it.
Picking up the Tissue Sample will automatically start the side mission, with your first objective being to scan the Tissue Sample. To do this, you will need to go back to Medical.
In the Main Lab of Medical, right after you step off the elevator, turn right and you should find the scanner for the Tissue Sample.
Interact with it and you will find out that the Tissue Sample belongs to Brant Harris, one of the miners in Aegis VII that was heavily affected by the Marker. The scanner tells you that Harris was registered under Dr. Challus Mercer, an antagonist of the game.
The scanner will then ask you for authorization for RIG tracking. This will lead you to your next objective.
Find Harris’ ICU Bed
Harris’ ICU bed can be found in, of course, the ICU (Intensive Care Unit).
You can find Harri’s ICU bed on the other side of the room when you first enter. It will be the one that is destroyed, with the console still working.
Press play on the console and a recording will play. It will show Harris being influenced by Mercer to go through with his plans. Wait for it to finish and you will get your next objective.
Investigate Ore Storage
Your next objective is to find and investigate the Ore Storage. However, you cannot do that unless you reach Chapter 7. Once you do, you will be able to visit the Mining area.
Once you reach the corridor that will take you to the elevators in Mining, there will be traps placed there. Instead of following the tracker, go forward until you reach the Ore Storage room.
In the Ore Storage room, there is a stack of crates on your left that is hiding an audio log.
Remove the crates and you should be able to retrieve the audio log. The audio will play and you can hear a deranged and psychotic Harris murder a miner by crushing his body into the Suit Kiosk. The recording will end, and you will get your next objective.
Find Report on the Bridge
The next objective is to find the report on the Bridge. This report was made by Nicole Brennan, Isaac’s girlfriend and the one who was previously in charge of helping Harris.
The report can be found on the console to the right, just as you enter the Main Atrium. Pressing play will reveal that Nicole is grilling Captain Benjamin Mathius about Harris and Mercer, asking why Mercer keeps bringing Harris to Hydroponics.
Wait for the recording to finish and you will get the last objective.
Investigate Hydroponics
Your last objective is to investigate Hydroponics, which was mentioned in the report on the Bridge.
Head to Hydroponics Control where you can enter the Diagnostics Lab, which is where you need to go to complete the objective. Be careful as the area is filled with toxic gas and Necromorphs.
Be sure to carry lots of Air Cans and health.
Once you reach the Diagnostics Lab, you will have to wait until the door closes for the toxic gas to leave the room. Once that’s done, you can then pick up the audio log.
Here, we hear Harris’ final moments before he fully succumbs to the infection and starts mutating and becoming the Hunter.
In the same room, we also get a Prototype Stasis Module, which you can use once you pick it up. This pretty much concludes the Premeditated Malpractice side mission.
