Isaac Clarke is probably one of the best sci-fi horror protagonists of the last 20 years, and it’s such a treat to see Isaac return to the spotlight once again. The man is an engineer who somehow has the precision of a surgeon when it comes to cutting off alien monster limbs.
With that said, we have to remind ourselves that Isaac is an engineer, meaning he has the capabilities to improve the weapons he uses to fight the Necromorphs that want to kill him.
In this guide, we’ll show you where to get all the weapon upgrades in the game.
All Weapon Upgrade Locations Guide – Dead Space
This list will only include weapon upgrades that cannot be found in the Store. There are weapon upgrades that show up eventually in the Store as you progress through the game, so including them here is not a priority.
#1 Plasma Cutter Upgrade
In the Ishimura Clinic, there is a weapon upgrade that you can find there when you have the objective to find the captain’s body.
#2 Pulse Rifle Upgrade
In Chapter 4, you can get an upgrade for the Pulse Rifle in the Electrical System Storage in the Bridge area.
The room will be locked, but you can unlock it through the open window by using Kinesis to remove the crates that are blocking the lock and shooting it, thus opening it.
Once open, head inside and you should be able to find the weapon upgrade on the shelf on the left.
#3 Ripper Upgrade
The next weapon upgrade can be found in Chapter 6 in the Hydroponics area.
When you are in the room with the sprinkler systems spewing out water towards the doors, wait until the sprinklers stop and go through the first door on the left, which is an office that belongs to Andonov.
You will find the weapon upgrade on the desk in the room.
#4 Flamethrower Upgrade
In Chapter 7, there is an easily missable weapon upgrade for the Flamethrower located in the lower levels of the Equipment Maintenance Bay in Mining. This is right after you get the SOS Beacon.
You will have to turn off gravity in order to reach the lower levels and reach the door with a level 3 security clearance.
The weapon upgrade is on the ground in front of you as you enter the room.
#5 Plasma Cutter Upgrade
In Chapter 8, when en route to deploy the antenna, you will come across the Maintenance Locker Room in the Communications Hub.
In there, you can find the weapon upgrade on the bench.
#6 Plasma Rifle Upgrade
The next weapon upgrade that can be found requires the Master Override, which is something you can only acquire once you find all RIGs in the You Are Not Authorized side mission.
Once you have it, go to the Water Purification Storage on the Bridge. There is a door that will have a star on it, meaning it requires a Master Override key.
The weapon upgrade for the Pulse Rifle can be found in the first locker on the left.
#7 Line Gun Upgrade
In the Hydroponics Centra Hub, there is a chest that requires a Master Override key to open it.
Open the chest and you will get an upgrade for the Line Gun.
#8 Contact Beam Upgrade
In the Mining area, there is a room called the Tools Storage that is hidden behind crates that require Kinesis to move. It’s also locked behind a Master Override lock.
Inside, there is a chest that requires a Master Override to unlock. Use it and you will get the Contact Beam upgrade.
#9 Ripper Upgrade
In the Engineering area, there is a locked chest that requires a Master Override key in the Machine Shop area.
Opening the chest will get you a Ripper upgrade.
#10 Contact Beam Upgrade
In the Medical area, there is a room called the Bioprosthetics Locker Room. This room is locked behind a level 3 security clearance, which you shouldn’t worry about if you already have the Master Override.
Inside, you will get the Contact Beam upgrade.
#11 Line Gun Upgrade
In Medical still, head to a room called Lab Storage. It’s locked behind a level 3 security clearance.
You can find a Line Gun upgrade here, as well as a surprise visit from a Necromorph.
#12 Force Gun Upgrade
In Chapter 10, there is a room in the Crew Quarters that you can access after destroying the second tendril.
It’s an upgrade for the Force Gun, which is the best weapon in the game, by the way.
#13 Flamethrower Upgrade
In the Deluxe Quarters in the Crew Deck, you can find a chest in the Deluxe Shift Bunks that contains the Flamethrower upgrade.
You will need the Master Override key to unlock the chest.
#14 Force Gun Upgrade
In Chapter 11, there is one more Force Gun upgrade to get here in the Cargo Bay.
In the area where you have to retrieve the Marker, there is a Guardian on the right side of the area when you first enter. Underneath the Guardian is a chest that requires a Master Override.
Opening the chest will grant you the last Force Gun upgrade, and the last weapon upgrade of this list.
