How To Build A Large Roof in Sons Of The Forest

A house is not a home.

Surviving out in the wilderness is never an easy feat to overcome, even for a paramilitary group of disposable rank-and-file operators there are limitations. Sure you’re given a handy dandy notebook for your survival guide but you never really expected to use it, until you crashed at least, now you’re stuck scrambling for resources you can get to build a shelter before nightfall.

Of course, this gets delayed further because Kelvin keeps tearing down the treehouse you built because you told him to gather wood for the same treehouse you’re trying to build. Fret not as we’re here to make sure you’ll sleep soundly at night without anyone dropping in on you from above.

Sons Of The Forest – How To Build A Large Roof

Building a roof in Sons Of The Forest is simple enough until you find out that the game doesn’t work like Minecraft and structural integrity needs to be treated with respect unless you like the idea of logs crushing you in your sleep.

We’ll skip the engineering and keep things simple for you in this guide so keep on reading!

If you want a roof then you will have to start with the logs that support that roof, and put one of these on every gap you see in your design. That’s about one meter apart for each log you put down.

You can do that by simply walking to where you connected the logs for your floorboards until a circle with dashes appears on the ground. Do that a couple of times before we go to the next step.

It’s now time to make the actual frame of your roof.

First, you will need to create the trusses that will keep your ceiling intact so use the logs you have to support the beam you just made. You can make those trusses using half logs so just walk up to one with your axe in hand and chop it in half once a red line appears over it.

After you wedge those half logs in the desired spot you can now safely remove the other logs underneath the beam you just made.  You might want to leave some in the middle if you plan on making a bigger structure.

We’re on the second floor now and the surface is now covered with plywood to make walking around it easier. This is the same process we did with filling in the floors when laying the foundation. Place some logs on the edge and cut the ones next to it in half as we’re making it into a triangle.

And that’s it! The next thing you need to do after finishing the frame is fill in the gaps with more half logs, imagine these as your shingles.

If deforestation is not your cup of tea then maybe utilizing a glitch of some sort will interest you, making these cabins are expensive after all!
