Taking control of a tallneck in Horizon: Forbidden West gives Aloy a boost in XP, skill point, and most importantly reveals a point of interest in the map. You will encounter the first tallneck once you cross the Cinnabar sands.
Tallneck Cinnabar Sands Solution – Horizon Forbidden West
To find the Tallneck, head southwest from Barren Light until you hit Cinnabar Sands, it can be found walking near a ruined satellite somewhere north of the Cinnabar Sands. You would need to first restore power to the satellite consoles.
Power Up the Satellite Console
There are a couple of machines you need to defeat before you can restore power so they don’t become a nuisance later when you’re climbing the Tallneck. It should be a total of three.
After they are defeated, knock down the ladder at the base of the satellite with your arrow, then climb up to the platform. To get the energy cell, there should be another ladder on the right-hand side of the platform, climb down to the lowest rung of the ladder then jump across to the railings.
After getting the energy cell, jump down to the metal platform beneath you. Place the energy cell in the generator beneath the satellite.
This will allow you to operate the dish, head to the console from earlier and interact with it to make the dish turn. After this, jump to the left-hand side platform then use the handholds to reach a ladder. You should end up beneath the satellite dish.
You would need to cut two wires at this point so the dish can turn fully. Shoot them down with Aloy’s bow then climb the ladder to reach the top of the satellite dish. All you need to do is wait at this point for the right moment to jump towards the Tallneck.
Override the Tallneck
Once the Tallneck is aligned with the satellite, leap and glide towards it, opting to aim at the yellow railings. Climb up to the top and override the machine, giving you vision of a huge chunk of your map.
This will also reveal interest points and four other Tallnecks.
