There’s a game out there about a bunch of Greek gods filled with action packed fighting, RPG mechanics and an open world you can travel with a hero that can use different weapons from the Greek gods. No it’s not Kratos and no it’s not God of War, it’s actually Immortals Fenyx Rising, a game released back in 2020 and just now has been released in Steam. The game flew under the radar for many people and it’s quite sad since it’s actually a great game despite how generic it may look sometime. This game has a lot of character and interesting gameplay in it and it’s criminal that it’s so underrated!

An Overlooked Game? A Late Immortals Fenyx Rising Review

The game is an Ubisoft game and for players who have played the many games under that developer you should already know that this is going to be an open world game. Immortals Fenyx Rising is a game that is heavily inspired by Breath of the Wild exploration mechanics much like how Genshin Impact is. Much like that game as well, Immortals Fenyx Rising brings more of their unique take on the table than than just copying Breath of the Wild.

Story

The game features a character that you can customize to a limited degree as he goes onto an adventure meeting all sorts of Greek mythological characters while being narrated by both Zeus and Prometheus and the writing although entertaining at times can be a bit of a hit or miss in terms of jokes for some people. You might hate it or love it, but what it does have is charming characters as well as great representation of the different Greek gods.

Gameplay

This is by far the best open world game Ubisoft has released and that’s because it doesn’t follow the usual Ubisoft formula of having checklists everywhere. There’s no, climb radio towers and unlock parts of the map multiplied by 20 here. It’s a legitimate adventure wherever you go with amazing looking areas as well as interesting quests here and there with just the right amount of fast travel thrown in for good measure.

The game has RPG elements with gear that you can upgrade and the upgrades doesn’t happen to fast and is actually paced rather well as you take in the adventuring aspects of the game. The system itself isn’t complex, but it is complex enough that it’s not just some random stat increases here and there that you won’t notice.

The game also features a hub area where you can just sit back and relax, upgrading your gear and planning out your next adventure to one corner of the map or to another quest. The rewards you get from exploring and quests are meaningful and are just enough to excite you but not drown you that it’ll feel boring.

Graphics

The game is downright beautiful and inspired and every nook and cranny of the game is something to behold. It may not be hyper-realism but the aesthetics and art style of the game really stands out and some of the cutscenes in the game are just amazing. From the particle effects to the environmental foliage, if you have a beast of a PC to play this with, it won’t be wasted on this game.

Overall the game is fun, the adventure is there and the combat is solid. It may not be the perfect game out there nor is it the worst mankind can create but it is certainly up there with other adventure action RPGs.

Summary

Immortals Fenyx Rising is a solid adventure that you can jump into and have fun. The combat is great and the story is entertaining enough to hook you in. There may be some rough spots here and there like boring or monotonous quests but they’re few and often don’t overstay their welcome. Definitely a game worth trying for those who like adventuring and fighting in an open world filled with activities and stories.
