Genshin Impact has received much attention as of late and it is finally up in the big leagues. Year 2 of it has just passed around the corner and as many people are very interested in joining it, it is time to review it once again, albeit a little later than what you’d expect.

In this review, we shall review all of the things that Genshin Impact has to offer and the current state that the game is in. We shall split it into a Pros and Cons section so that you may fully comprehend and understand what this game has good for it, while at the same time the bad. We will conclude the review with our summary and the rating at the end. Let’s get started.

Should You Play Genshin Impact In 2023? – A Very Late Genshin Impact Review

MiHoYo is the company that dreamt of and is responsible for publishing the role-playing video game Genshin Impact. In 2020, it was made available for iOS, Android, PS 4, and Windows. In 2021, it was made available for PlayStation 5, and it is scheduled to be made available for Nintendo Switch.

It is a very popular Gacha game which is an anime-styled RPG filled with very beautiful and relaxing art and tons of little things that you’re able to do. As it is right now, it is getting around 10 million players online at a peak per some days of the week.

Pros

Let’s start off with the good side of things and see just why Genshin Impact is becoming more popular with time.

Free To Play

Genshin Impact is a freetoplay game. There aren’t any elements to it that will make you say that it is a pay-to-win kind of game. You are able to get a lot of the things from the in-game shop with your own work and grind while playing it.

Also, a lot of the time the items that you aren’t able to get if you are a free-to-play player, you are able to substitute them with other almost equally good items. This aspect that allows players to simply open up the game and invest their time in it without paying a penny is a very big Pro.

Constant Updates

We cannot stress enough just how many things there have been added over the course of 2 years. You will be playing some very new sections of the game and the world will actually advance as you do them. Everything is changeable and the constant updates give that fresh breeze of air that some free-to-play games are lacking.

You won’t get stuck at any point of the game simply because if you do, the chance is the following week you’ll be getting some new content that will make you re-play Genshin Impact over and over again. The devs are really going all in with their updates and they aren’t all similar at all. Every update has its own unique story and different challenges.

These updates bring in new explorable content like islands and underground sections, new roster and characters with their very detailed background, new quests and side quests that will give tons of rewards… The list is ongoing and we really have no idea what the next update will bring too.

Sound & Voice Acting

Prepare to get yourself immersed fully in an anime or manga world thanks to the beautiful voice acting. Every important character that you’ll see through the massive world of Genshin Impact has its unique tale and voice to let you know of it. Each of the voice acting is done exceptionally well and also there are a few options for different languages too.

The music of Genshin Impact is how you will get immersed in the living roleplaying environment around you. Every little note that you’ll hear feels just right. The wide open fields have their tone, the closed off traffic heavy towns feel that way, and the dark dungeons give an eerie type of music… everything feels just right.

Visuals & Environment

The visuals are truly impressive and the style art is how this game gives you the feel and the real beauty of its environment. The map and the open world is massive and there are so many things that you can see. The real beauty comes from the fact that everything you’re going to see in the world, is more or less reachable.

The ways of traveling are also very interesting. At one point you will be marching through the scorching sand deserts, then you’ll go in a rainy dark forest only to emerge on the other side of the most beautiful little Japanese-styled village. You are able to sail through water as many other methods in special types of area in the game.

Gameplay

Fast, energetic, alive, and with a lot of options. Genshin Impact has a 4 character system that will allow you to customize them and choose as you explore the world. This in terms results in much fun and quite a bit of variation to experiment with.

Every new update there will be a new challenge that you can go through either solo or in a multiplayer coop way. The gameplay aspect of Genshin Impact is so much fun and feels as fresh as the very beginning of the game. Players are very enticed with it and frankly, it just keeps getting better.

The enemies vary from each other and each zone will be so unique with different types of monsters. Not only that, the puzzles of Genshin Impact are different from each other, and albeit might be annoying and so easy at times, most of them are very well designed and will keep you playing them for hours.

You level up your characters and use the rewards gotten from playing the game to make them better. There is always a challenge for you and that feeling of being overpowered might not even come since there’s always an update with newer and tougher puzzles, domains, and bosses.

Story & Much More

The story starts off pretty basic but as you keep on going through it you’ll be getting very deep into the background of all of the characters and the world around you.

Sometimes you might get overwhelmed and have a hard time following it, but there’s so much more than just visuals and fast hack-and-slash elements to this game thanks to the story and many chapters and updates this game has gotten.

Cons

What are the bad things about Genshin Impact?

Co-Op Issues

This is a problem that has been ongoing maybe for a year and a half, but the co-op is still very poorly implemented in the game. The ability to do Co-Op world exploration and puzzles is not registered as it should be. When you finish a puzzle in one’s world, you won’t have it finished in yours.

Co-Op feels as though they are there from launch only to make domains longer. Simply put, Co-Op in domains is useless and there is no reason to help out because of the reason mentioned above. Let’s hope that the devs will implement a system that will work out for the best.

UI

You won’t know where to go or where you are when it comes to going underground or above ground. The Ui and the map won’t help you out with it. You’d think this won’t be such a big problem, but in a very massive world filled with dungeons and caves like in Genshin Impact, this is very annoying and hopefully, it will get worked on in the future.

New Player Problem

This is a thing that new players might experience when they first enter Genshin Impact. You’ll have a lot of things to do. This is of course a good thing, but how the banner system works might make it a problem.

If you get a banner for going to Sumeru(map region in the game), and you can’t go over there you’d experience some issues and so on. Although this is personal and voiced by some newer players, the game actually does a good job of actually helping out by giving you fairly good things in the early stages of it.

A simple solution might be just a way to replay old events, or at least maybe watch some of the cutscenes. Once an event has passed it means that it’s gone for good. You’d be lost and confused if you’re a new player at times simply because you don’t know these events.

Summary

Genshin Impact is on the hype train right now and for a very good reason. With each update that it gets it still feels as fresh as the day it got released. So much content you’ll be able to do with so many beautiful different regions and challenges, that will make you feel there are multiple games in one. It is a game that excites 2-year-old players of it, and if you are a newcomer, it should definitely excite you to try it out as well.
