Baldur’s Gate 3 is massive, and with so many things going on in the game, you sometimes miss a few things here and there. Small details and such that will surprise you on your next playthrough as the game has great replayability. When dealing with Auntie Ethel and her lair in Act 1, you might have missed a few things in her room. This may include a bunch of potions with different names. What do they do?

In this guide, we’ll show you what each potion does in the game. We’ll also give you ways to remove some of the cursed ones, if you accidentally drank them. Now, let’s see what these potions do!

Auntie Ethel’s Potion Effects | What Do They Do?

When going through the lair of the hag known as Auntie Ethel in Act 1 of the game, you’ll get a chance to go to the end of her lair.

There, you’ll find a room filled with all sorts of stuff, like a staff and a wand that you’ll need to give to the widow if she survives. In one corner of the room, are a bunch of potions shown in the image below.

These potions have different names, and they also have certain effects when taken. Here is a comprehensive list of all Auntie Ethel’s Potions along with their respective effects:

Good Potions

  • Heart Of Stone — Resistance to Poison Damage until the next rest.
  • A Mother’s Loathing — Gains the Bite Ability until the next long rest.

Bad Potions

  • Lost Time — For 50 Turns Armor Class is reduced by 2. You also can’t make reactions.
  • Butterflies In The Stomach — For 4 Turns get the Hemmoraged condition. You take 1d6 Piercing Damage per turn.
  • Missing Pets — For 4 Turns get a disadvantage on Ability Checks and Attack Rolls.
  • Wilted Dreams — Cursed to take 3-18 Psychic Damage after the next long rest. Despite it saying permanent, it disappears after the next long rest. It can also be removed with the Remove Curse Spell.
  • Lover’s Avarice — Cursed to have your wisdom reduced by 1. It can be removed with the Remove Curse Spell.
  • Broken Promises — Strength is increased by 2 until the next Long Rest. After the long rest, strength is reduced by 1 indefinitely. It can be removed with the Remove Curse Spell.
  • Faltering Will — Disadvantage on Wisdom Saving Throws until the next rest.
  • Insanity’s Kiss — Hostile to all other creatures for 5 turns. It can be removed with the Remove Curse Spell.

As you can see only a couple of potions are beneficial to drink for your party. The rest are either curses, debuffs, or worse. What’s great though is that you can get these potions and throw them at enemies!
