Bard class in Baldur’s Gate 3 focuses on inspiring allies and debuffing enemies. This class is extremely generous in buffing the team’s health, armor and attacks. Plus, efficient crowd control skills lets you control the flow of the battle. In this guide, we will show you the best way to use Bard as a support role for your team. Let’s head in!

Bard Class Build Guide – Baldur’s Gate 3

Race Choice

Bard primarily relies on high Charisma to charm (or insult) enemies and allies as well as spell casting modifier hence, choosing the right Race that synergies with Charisma is important.

There are two classes that allow this, the Half-Elf and Tiefling. We recommend choosing the High Half-Elf because this race will give you two extra Ability Improvements which you can put in Dexterity, Strength or Constitution.

Skill Choice

For Race Background, choose Entertainer as this will give you Acrobatics and Performance proficiency that allows you to further buff the Skills you already have. This synergizes well with the Jack of All Trades skill later on.

This too allows you to pick Deception, Intimidation and Persuasion skill that is extremely useful for Ability Checks in and out of combat.

Spells and Cantrips

Cantrips choice for Bard is Vicious Mockery and True Strike. Vicious Mockery is useful to debuff enemies’ Attack Rolls and deal Psychic damage, while True Strike buffs our character’s defense and Attack Rolls.

For spells, go for Dissonant Whispers, Tasha’s Hideous Laughter, Cure Wounds, and Healing Word. Tasha’s Hideous Laughter is extremely essential for Bard as a support.

Ability Points

Since Charisma is Bard’s main attribute skill, you want to max Charisma out to further strengthen Bard’s rolls for skills and attacks. Along with Dexterity and Constitution that supports Hit Point as well as combat initiative.

When Bard hits level 3 you get to choose your Subclass, either pick College of Lore or College of Valour. We recommend picking College of Lore for Bard support build as the Cutting Words class action further debuffs enemies’ ability.

At level 4 you can further increase your Charisma skill with another Ability Improvement that allows you to hit 18 for your Charisma.

Gear Choice

An essential gear for Bard is the Cap of Curing, found in the Gilded Chest near Druid Grove. This allows you to heal targets with Barding Inspiration

For weapons and other gear, you may choose whatever you like. Although, investing in defensive gear that put your AC at a high level is recommended.

Hope this Bard class guide helps!
