With the latest patch, there have been a couple of new things added for the Paladins. They are mostly spells and skills and how they can affect your leveling-up process. Here we shall present you with the best tips on leveling up as well as becoming an Oathbreaker. Let’s get started.

Level 1
This is for when you are first creating your character.
Starting Ability Points
This is how you should place your starting ability points when starting out with a new Paladin in the new patch. As you can see, the stereotypical paladin build works just fine with this patch too so you should be sticking to something like this too. You will be pretty much on the front more or less so these points should provide you with enough survivability.
Best Race
The best race for the Paladin is Half Elf period. This is without a doubt what you should be going for if you aren’t trying to immerse yourself in some set roleplaying activity of another race. With the Half–Elf you will be getting Charisma +2 and plus any 2 other ability scores.
The other traits like Ancestry and Dark Vision simply work great for the Paladin making this race an absolute winner.
Starting Skills
For the Skills that you start with you can go with simply whatever feels best for your playstyle. You can either go with Athletics if you plan to be on the front line or maybe something like Intimidation or Persuasion for in-game extra abilities and such.
Level 2
There are a lot of new spells that have been added with the patch when you take Level 2. The only problematic part that might come confusing are the Smites. Currently, there are 3 Smites that you can play with: Wrathful, Thunderous, and Searing.
Other than that you can choose either of these options:
- Defence
- Dueling
- Great Weapon Fighting
- Protection
It is based on your playstyle but for the Paladin, we must recommend the Defence and Dueling since you will be using them quite a bit in your gameplay.
Oathbreaker
You are able to become a Paladin Oathbreaker if you start attacking some NPCs that can be found throughout the game’s world. You can also get it if you start attacking some NPCs that aren’t necessarily hostile to you.
You will be presented with a cutscene with a paladin talking about your breaking the oath. This is a secret of how you can obtain a Sub–Class. You will get a screen as though you have leveled up but you haven’t.
You are also able to retake your oath later on in the game so don’t worry about losing the buffs that you have as a normal Paladin.
Level 4 & Level 5
You will more choices when it comes to level4. You will want to be choosing a Feat depending on your play style and only that. For the Ability, we recommend that you choose everything on Strenght. It does sound a bit boring but you’ll need it because you are a Paladin after all.
For these levels, you will also have the ability to choose a spell for your Paladin. You will go with the spells that suit your playstyle the best. So just based on what you picked as your classes you will pick the spells. For example, if you went for a Charisma paladin, go for charisma spells, and so on.
