If you thought dealing with Ketheric Thorm alone was a pain in Baldur’s Gate 3 then you clearly haven’t fought him for the third time. Bosses like him are no pushover, unlike Balthazar, he has nothing left to lose which gives him more reason to give you a difficult time.

Now you have to deal with both him and the Apostle of Myrkul in a drawn out fight. Both won’t take any damage unless you prepare yourself. You can even get rid of the first phase of the fight easily without drawing your sword. Find out more by reading the boss guide below!

To make the upcoming fights easier, you’re going to have to free Nightsong first. She’s on the far-right platform of the room and can be easily freed by using the “Help” action. The Apostle is only invulnerable until you free Nightsong. The fight will go nowhere if you leave her tied up.

You can get to that platform either by sneaking or using invisibility. If you’re lucky, you can even land a hit on Thorm with advantage if you stay hidden.

Second Phase

A good strategy will always involve a ranged character shooting from a high place. He won’t be able set his sights on your ranged attacker either if you have someone like Karlach keeping him occupied up close. Another thing that your ranged attacker should do is focus its efforts on is the Mind Flayer and any Necromites that will spawn in.

Third and Final Phase

Reduce Ketheric Thorm’s HP to 10 and a cutscene will play before he turns into the Apostle of Myrkul. The only good thing that will come from this is the fact that he won’t move from where he’s standing. Be wary of his Bone Chill effect however as this will prevent your party from getting healed. This gives you more reason to clear out the rest of the room and heal up before this phase starts.

You can keep using the same tactic from before where your ranged attackers are on high platforms. Keep your melee fighters distanced from each other so that they won’t go down all at the same time. Make use of Divination spells like Hunter’s Mark as well to deal a little bit of extra damage.

Charisma Phase

What’s an RPG game worth if you cannot win an uphill battle by talking your way out of it? You can skip the second phase entirely and save your spell slots for later by passing a Persuasion Check on Thorm. This will trigger the same cutscene where he jumps into the hole to summon Myrkul. Remember that you still need to free Nightsong if you want to deal any actual damage to the apostle.

Here we have Alexis, he's been gaming ever since the second Famicom came out. Which is probably the reason why he goes back to platformers every now and then. Somewhere down the line he started getting more and more fascinated about looking at maps change colors for three to eight hours straight. If he's not out strategizing and beating the life out of his space bar in that order there's a good chance you can find him playing an FPS or talking someone's ear out about how game balance gets in the way of realism. You can tell that he really likes getting the full experience of whatever he gets his hands on.
