So you’ve read all three pages of the Necromonicon in Baldur’s Gate 3 and still have your sanity intact. Great! But there’s two things that you still need to be aware of: One, Gale really needed that book, and two, you’re still missing one more page.
So how difficult can it be to find one more page for a book that no one’s supposed to read? Well in this guide you’ll learn where the last page is so you or your party members can finally give it one last read.
How to Read The Necromancy Book of Thay
After you obtain the book from the cellar in the Blighted Village, you won’t have any interaction with it again for quite some time. This changes once you get to Sorcerous Sundries in Baldur’s Gate. Deeper into Sorcerous Sundries is a vault that you can only access via a portal on the second floor. The item you’ll be looking for in that vault is called The Tharchiate Codex. All of this, is part of The Wizard of Waterdeep, which is Gale’s primary quest.
The coordinates for the room in Sorcerous Sundries are X:9 Y:-74 and you’re looking for an item called “Clasped Book.” Interact with it and a portal will appear in the same room. Go in there and you’ll enter the Sorcerous Vault, now head south towards the door named Ramazith. Be careful as vaults have valuables, and traps are placed all over to protect those valuables.
Once you’re through, you will see multiple doors. You’ll need to open three doors in a specific order before you come back to the room where the portal is. The doors you need to go through will be Silverhand, Evocation, and Wish in that order. There’s a lever at the edge of the Wish room, pull that and make your way back to the portal room.
Now you have access to the Elminster Vault. To keep spoilers to a minimum, head to the east side of the room and grab The Tharchiate Codex. That’s the last page you need to finish reading the Necromancy of Thay. Reading the last page will require a Wisdom check of 20 DC. After that you’ll get the Speak with Dead and Summon Ghoul spells as a reward.
And that’s how you read the rest of the Necromany of Thay in Baldur’s Gate 3. As said earlier, there will be plenty of traps inside of the vault. You may want to change your difficulty settings in case you roll an oopsie for your saving throws. If you can live with the guilt of save scumming that is.
