When you have something living in your head rent free in Baldur’s Gate 3 like the Mind Flayer tadpoles, your first course of action as someone who values personal space would usually involve eviction. But you might change your mind after you realize that they carry powers that may be worth your time.

Of course, using these Mind Flayer specimens might come off as confusing at first. Finding them is no easy feat either. But if you have a couple of bottles on hand and would like to know what to do with them then keep reading the guide!

After you obtain an Ilithid Tadpole from a quest or an NPC, you can access the specimen from your inventory. Simply click on the item and select Consume to have a cutscene play out. Once that’s out of the way press B on your keyboard, or click on your Ilithid Powers on the upper right side of your screen.

In case you don’t know how to get Ilithid Powers, you’ll first have to keep on long resting at the camp until a specific scene with the Dream Visitor triggers.

Here’s are the locations for the Mind Flayer Parasites that you can find along the Forgotten Realms:

  • On the dead True Soul inside of the Forest (X139, Y444)
  • By defeating Flind, the Gnoll Warlord. You can find him by doing the Find the Missing Shipment quest.
  • Inside of the Druid Grove (X445, Y-17)
  • By Defeating True Soul Gut, Dror Ragzlin and Minthara at the Shattered Sanctum.

Now you can choose an area in your mind to evolve. Imagine this as if it were a regular skill tree. You start in one area of your brain and it goes further back the more you invest in that specific area. Make sure to click on the power you want or drag the pod over the icon that you wish to acquire.

If you’re going down this route then you might as well increase your chances of hitting your opponent. That will be made possible by investing points into Favorable Beginnings and Luck of the Far Realms. Those can be found on the upper right side of your noggin.

And that’s how you can use the Mind Flayer Parasite Specimens in Baldur’s Gate 3. Defeating all three prominent figures of the Shattered Sanctum might be daunting at first. That can all go away by changing the difficulty of course. Don’t worry, surely no one will judge you for it!

Here we have Alexis, he's been gaming ever since the second Famicom came out. Which is probably the reason why he goes back to platformers every now and then. Somewhere down the line he started getting more and more fascinated about looking at maps change colors for three to eight hours straight. If he's not out strategizing and beating the life out of his space bar in that order there's a good chance you can find him playing an FPS or talking someone's ear out about how game balance gets in the way of realism. You can tell that he really likes getting the full experience of whatever he gets his hands on.
