Whether it’s in an MMO, an RPG or Action Horror game Inventory management can be a pain. Some people just live with a cluttered inventory while others keep it tidy. In Baldur’s Gate 3 there’s a lot of stuff that you can pick up in the game and that can easily fill up your inventory. From weapons and armor to fish and apples and even whole crates and chests there’s a bunch of items out there.

In this guide we’ll show you some tips on how to manage your inventory effectively in the game. We’ll also give you some tricks on how to easily see items in your inventory. So you can find that one potion you need! Now let’s clean up that inventory screen.

Inventory Management Guide

Veterans of RPGs might instinctively select a character and press the I Key to bring out their inventory. That’s true for Baldur’s Gate and the rest of Larian Studio games. So that’s a valid way of checking your inventory. Just select the character you want on the left side of the screen and press I to open their inventory.

Party members don’t share an inventory so keep that in mind. Don’t just keep all the healing potions to one person, you’ll want to give some to your party members as well. That’s also true for weapons specially throwing weapons. You don’t want to suddenly run out of Javelins because another party member picked them up and never gave them to you!

Everyone knows I is for Inventory, like S is for S-backwards!

If you want to give certain characters an item, then you can right click on an item and check the “Send To” options. So, you can send specific items to your party members to lighten the load or give them what they need. You can also drop or throw items from this menu as well as send them to the camp inventory to sort out later.

Here Shadowheart, I hope you like skulls!

Clicking through each character can be a pain though and the developers know that. That’s why when you press the TAB key you can see all the inventories of each party member. Now you can easily drag and drop items from one character to the other.

Now you see who’s the hoarder in the party!

Another way to make things easier when going through your inventory is to sort the items. You can do that by pressing the sorting button shown below and select either Latest, Value, Weight or Type. This is great if you want to know what you just picked up, you can just select Latest. Or if you’re trading you can select value.

If you don’t know how trading works, then go check out our trading and bartering guide for more details!

It’s great to sort by weight if your character has low strength!

If the inventory screen is too small for you then you can also click the Expand Inventory Button. This button makes the inventory screen bigger. This can be used if you’re not really equipping a character and just want to see as much of the inventory as possible.

Now we get to see more of the useless stuff you picked up!

If you want to filter items to either weapons, potions, scrolls and more then you can use the search box in the inventory. That’s not just for typing in specific names but can also be used to filter items. So if you want to just see scrolls to cast or potions to drink then use the search box shown below.

Now if only I can remember what the name of the item I’m looking for!

That’s how the inventory works in Baldur’s Gate 3! Now that you know how that works go check our guide on the best race for Paladins if you haven’t already!
