“Stop the Presses” is a questline in Baldur’s Gate 3 where you want to find out why you’re suddenly the headline of the news. And at some point, users get confused as to how they should proceed in the quest, or which are the bad options and why they’re failing.

Here’s the walkthrough that starts from the very beginning.

Stop The Presses

The quest starts by talking with Estra Stir, the journalist that talks about how you’re going to be the main topic in the next Baldur’s Mouth Gazette. After asking her how she knew us and picking the [Baldurian] option afterward, you’ll begin the “Stop the Presses” quest here.

To summarize the quest after speaking to Estra Stire:

  • Talk to the editor of the Baldu’s Mouth Gazette to find out why you’re the star of the next edition.
  • Check the next edition of the Baldur’s Mouth Gazette after swapping out the headline.

The quest’s pointer will lead you to the office here. Just enter the area and go towards the Elevator Door. Remember to sneak and lockpick this door to ride it and head down the basement.

Sneak past the first Steel Watcher and hide in the cellar at the end of first alley. Once he’s turned around, leave and sneak behind the second Steel Watcher.

There’s another hiding spot to the right here. Open the Double Door, wait for him to walk by, and then sneak out and open the last door.

Inside, you’ll find the Printing Press, working on the next issue, a talking Printing Press that has a fey inside. There’s an additional cutscene here if you’ve rescued Dolly Dolly Dolly. But don’t worry if you haven’t, it won’t affect this quest!

It will offer to change the headline for you and will throw away the plate. Otherwise, you can use Sleight of Hand option to remove the loaded headline and roll the dice.

Here’s where it gets tricky because you need to find replacement article for the press. If you pick random plates, you might still get a negative result and the press would still spun out bad headlines about your party.

Head back to the room where you hid from the second Steel Watcher. Press Alt and you can see a plate about cute cats. Use that one for a neutral result from press!
