Easter Eggs and secrets are some of the best content to find in any video game. Sometimes they’re funny, sometimes they’re scary, and sometimes they’re hard to reach. In Dead Space Remake, there are several Easter Eggs and secrets that you can find that references other games and characters in the franchise. However, we are here to bring you the best of the best, the ones that make you go “oh wow, that’s neat”. Here is a list of the best Easter Eggs and secrets in Dead Space Remake.

Dead Space Remake – Best Easter Eggs & Secrets

Nicole Is Dead

This one is a bit of a spoiler, and it’s an easter egg that also appeared in the original. The main reason as to why Isaac Clarke went to the Ishimura in the first place is because his girlfriend, Nicole Brennan, is stationed there. Before the events of the game, it is revealed that Isaac and Nicole had a falling out that resulted in Nicole not contacting Isaac for a while. Isaac volunteers to go in order to make amends, only to find that the Ishimura is swarmed with monsters.

Isaac eventually meets Nicole, but something about her seems… odd, telling Isaac to “make us whole” and whatnot. But to Isaac, he doesn’t care. He found Nicole and he’s going to do everything he can to get her and him out of the Ishimura and somewhere safe. However, Isaac soon discovers that Nicole has been dead the whole time, and the Nicole he’s been seeing is the Marker causing dementia.

This may come as a shock to newcomers who are playing the remake, but did you know that the game actually tells you that Nicole is dead this whole time? If you take the first letter of each chapter, it will spell out NICOLE IS DEAD. The whole time Isaac has been seeing and speaking to Nicole was simply his mind deteriorating, holding on to the hope that Nicole is alive.

Dead Space Extraction Reference

Have you guys played Dead Space Extraction? You should. It’s a prequel to Dead Space and it shows what happened to the Aegis VII colony, as well as the Ishimura. You get to experience the Necromorph outbreak from the perspective of the colonists and crew who found the Marker. It’s a fantastic Wii and PlayStation 3 game that you should definitely get if you have the extra money.

In Dead Space Remake, three of the main characters in Extraction are referenced in a text log: Gabe Weller, Nathan McNeill, and Lexine Murdoch. The original did not reference these characters because Extraction came out after the original. Sadly, Nathan McNeill dies at the end of Extraction, and Gabe Weller dies saving Lexine Murdoch in Dead Space 2 Severed.

A little bonus: Alissa Vincent from the Dead Space Downfall movie is also referenced in an audio log.

Secret Text Log

In Chapter 4, there is Break Room you can enter when enroute to Electrical Systems. Inside is a gritty and scary looking area with a video of the Marker playing on a loop, and a circle of blood in front of it. Enter the circle of blood and look down. You should see a foot print and a hand print going around the circle.

You will get a secret text log if you follow the footprints by stomping and hands by punching. Eventually, you will get it and you can read it.

Dead Space 2 Conversation Between Isaac and Nicole

When you start playing Dead Space 2, the intro starts off with a video call between Isaac and Nicole. The two talks about how Nicole wouldn’t be on the Ishimura if Isaac didn’t push her to do it. Obviously, this is a huge deal to Isaac as he believes he is the reason why Nicole is dead. But did you know that you can find this conversation in the remake?

In Kyne’s saferoom in the later chapters, Isaac can find the audio log of their conversation here. Some speculate that this is a hint that they may be in the early stages of a Dead Space 2 Remake. Either that, or they just wanted to include this for the sake of story.

Secret Alternate Ending

This one is a new one, something that is not in the original game. In the ending of both the original and the remake, Isaac escapes Aegis VII before it gets destroyed. He pilots the shuttle away from the planet and towards the nearest civilization. However, when Isaac turns to his right, he sees a dead Nicole that immediately lunges at him, screaming in his face.

In the remake, there is an alternate ending that changes some things. When playing on New Game +, you will have to collect 12 Marker Fragments that are scattered all over the Ishimura. Once you have them, go to the Captain’s Quarters in the Crew Deck and place the Marker Fragments on the shrine. Once you have done that, finish the game and you will get the secret ending.

The secret ending shows an insane Isaac Clarke, fully succumbing to the Marker’s influence. We see him talk to Nicole, who he just found out had died moments ago, yet he is speaking to her as if she’s there. Eventually, a hallucination of Nicole appears behind him and places a hand on his shoulder. We get a better look at the new deranged Isaac Clarke, who says that he plans on “building something” (possibly more Markers) as the camera pans to his helmet on the floor before cutting to black.

Some speculate that this will lead to a Dead Space 2 Remake, others believe that it’s just a neat little secret the devs put in. However, if Motive is planning on doing a remake of the second, then this new direction of Isaac being fully insane might lead to a few changes to the story of Dead Space 2 Remake.
