Black Myth: Wukong is finally out after years of hype and teasers, and a lot of players seem to be struggling with how deceptively challenging the game’s boss encounters can be. If you are new to these types of games and are struggling with the first few bosses, then try out this one method that we will be sharing with you!

How to Level Up Fast | EXP Farm

Let me preface this by saying that this method will require you to progress a little further into the game, with at least one required boss that isn’t optional. I’m talking about the Lingxuzi, the first required boss of the game.

If you need a guide like this one, I’m going to go ahead and wager that you’ll need help with it too. Luckily, we have a guide on how to beat the Lingxuzi boss just in case you haven’t defeated it yet.

Now, for the actual start of this exp farming method, you will need to reach the Snake Trail shrine at the Bamboo Grove zone. You are essentially railroaded into this location after Lingxuzi, so you won’t need any help with directions here.

Don’t forget to activate the shrine beside the stairs once you make it here. This is going to be crucial to this method, and you should be doing that to all shrines anyway.

How Does the Farm Work?

First, you will want to go up the stairs right beside the shrine. From here, there will be a linear path to follow. Along the way, you will face a couple of Snake Patrollers and Skeletal Snakes.

The latter are easy to kill and take a single heavy strike with one point of focus to kill, but the Snake Patrollers can be deceptively tough and pack quite a punch. Just be ready to dodge to the side whenever it stops and stands straight, as it will charge towards you after.

At the end of the path, you will reach a large field with a lot of bamboo. There will be more Snake Patrollers here, as well as a whole lot of Skeletal Snakes that you can trigger by just walking close to them.

The main idea is to kill all of them, with the Snake Patrollers as the highest priority. This is because you gain the following amount of EXP for each kill:

  • Snake Patroller – Gives you 175 EXP each.
  • Skeletal Snake – Gives you 32 EXP each.

Once you are done clearing out all of the enemies, or at least every single Snake Patroller, you just need to return to the shrine and rest up to respawn them all.

That’s pretty much it. After resting, you just go through the entire path and clear out as many enemies as you can, especially the patrollers that give almost 200 EXP a pop. There are a few bonus tips that I can provide you in the next section.

Some Stuff to Keep in Mind

First of all, it is highly recommended that you set the Incense Trail Talisman item to a hotkey. In case you weren’t aware of this item’s existence, it is probably the first thing you see when you open your inventory.

The Incense Trail Talisman can be reused as many times as you want, and it will instantly teleport you back to the last shrine that you visited. Obviously, this will make your runs way more efficient.

Stay on the Path!

While it may seem like an obvious tip to simply follow the linear dirt road and clear every enemy in sight, I know that some of you silly folks won’t be able to resist the urge to explore.

I won’t blame you, because I love checking every single corner before going to whichever part I think will trigger the next part of the story. However, in this case, we want to stay on the path.

Assuming you haven’t finished the first chapter yet or explored its optional stuff, I’m going to warn you right now that straying too far can potentially lead you to two different bosses.

What you want to avoid is progressing too far in the bamboo grove or going a little too deep in the swamp that is a bit off to the side from where you meet the second Snake Patroller.

If the intrusive thoughts win, then I wish you good luck. Personally, these two bosses only took me a single try each, but who knows how you’ll fare, especially if you are still in need of an EXP farm. To help you, we have guides on the following bosses that you will encounter:

  • Stray too deep in the swamp – You will need this guide on how to beat Baw Li Guh Lang, who will ambush you without warning.
  • Go past the narrow pathway in the bamboo grove – You will trigger a cutscene leading to a fight with the boss named Guangmou. This is actually a required boss, as he is pretty much in the way of the next area.

And that is pretty much all you need to know about this early game EXP farm, which should be enough to get you to around level 20 or more in a short amount of time.

Personally, I would rather just skip grinding as you don’t really need to do so for this chapter. However, I won’t fault you for needing the extra sparks if you’re really struggling to progress further.

Before you go, as a final tip, there is a friendly NPC along the way to the EXP farming route. Once you go up the stairs beside the shrine¸ instead of going to the bridge with the first Snake Patroller, go the other way and trigger the cutscene there to learn how to use spirits.
