As you play Black Myth Wukong and progress through the game, you’ll earn skill points. These skill points can be used to get various upgrades in the game. In fact, the game features quite an extensive skill tree with multiple categories.
Having trouble understanding or making the most of this skill tree? Not to worry, we have you covered! In this guide, we’ll help you understand the entire skill tree and what upgrades you need to watch out for. Let’s dive in!
Skill Tree Complete Guide
The skill tree in Black Myth Wukong consists of 4 main categories: Foundation, Staff Stances, Mysticism and Alteration. So, we’ll be focusing on each of them.
You can also get upgrades in each skill tree by spending Sparks. If you’ve already invested in skills and are worried that you’ve wasted your Sparks, don’t worry. There is a way to actually reset and get them back, which we’ll look at in the guide too.
Feel free to use the Table of Contents if you’re only interested in a specific skill tree category.
Foundation
As the name suggests, the Foundation skill tree consists of your character’s foundational stats. There are three stats that play a key role in the gameplay mechanics of Black Myth Wukong:
- Stamina
- Influences how much you can sprint and dodge
- Martial Arts
- Buffs the damage you deal with moves
- Survival
- Helps you last a little longer.
This is an important skill tree that you should absolutely progress gradually as you go through the game.
We also recommend that you upgrade a particular stat through this tree if you feel like you’re lacking in a stat. As the game progresses, you’ll come across bosses that get harder and harder.
So, for example, if you feel like you’re dying too fast, you can upgrade your Survival. On the other hand, if you feel like you’re doing less damage, then go with the Martial Arts tree.
Just make sure that you do not end up investing all your skill points at once on a single tree.
Staff Stances
Staff Stances is another crucial skill tree that you must consider in Black Myth Wukong. They form the foundation of your combat and you can use any of three stances throughout the game with the press of a button.
The three Staff Stances have separate trees for each of them, which are:
- Smash Stance
- Pillar Stance
- Thrust Stance.
We recommend that you focus entirely on one type of stance when you start the game. This is because you’ll primarily be focusing on a single stance anyway when you play the game.
You can choose any of these stances by experimenting with them and seeing which one suits you. We do recommend the Force Unbound skill for the Smash Stance as it is incredibly versatile.
If at any point, you are not feeling comfortable with it or want to try something different, you can just reset your skill points.
After that, you can put those skill points in another stance and go from there.
In the Staff Stances skill tree, there are also some separate skills to the left of the Stances. These are abilities that will help you buff all the stances.
We recommend that you get the Exhilaration skill in particular. With this skill, each talent level will slightly increase your Health recovery upon consuming a Focus Point. This buff will apply across all the stances, giving you greater survivability.
On the left of the Abilities, you have three skills that relate to Focus Points. If you’re not familiar, Focus Points are what you use to do your heavy attacks in Black Myth Wukong. You can build them up using light attacks.
Heavy Attacks are critical to your combat in Black Myth Wukong. So, ideally, you want to have as many Focus Points as possible.
The three skills we’ve marked below will help you increase your Focus Points gradually up to 4. Be sure to upgrade them progressively as well.
Your goal should be to have the Focus Points maxed out when you are near the end of the game.

Alteration
The Alteration tab in the skill tree will start off with only one spell, Cloud Step. This is a crucial spell in Black Myth Wukong which allows you to dodge through enemies and stagger them at the same time.
Since the game does not have traditional blocking, you will be using Cloud Step quite a lot. The upgrades for Cloud Step all buff up the spell in multiple ways.
For example, the Gallop skill will allow you to increase your movement speed when you use Cloud Step.
So, we recommend that you upgrade it progressively too as you’ll be using it a lot.
As you progress through the game, you’ll unlock more spells related to Alteration. You can then upgrade them accordingly in this tab when you get them.
Mysticism
The Mysticism tab contains a very crucial spell, Immobilize. You’ll get access to it pretty early in the Black Myth Wukong.
Immobilize is probably the number one spell that you will use against bosses. This is because it allows you to freeze an enemy and get in some much needed damage. You can also use it to buy yourself some time so you can heal yourself.
By upgrading this skill tree, you can make it stronger and be able to maximize the damage you do to bosses. So, make sure to give special attention to it.
Transformations
The Transformations skill tree deals with all the major transformations in Black Myth Wukong. It’s important to note that you cannot upgrade the minor Spirit transformations here.
For the most part, you won’t be using this skill tree much in the beginning. This is because you unlock the major transformations gradually as you progress through the game. After that, you will be able to upgrade them in the skill tree.
Once you get the transformations, you can then experiment with them and see if they are useful for you. If there is a particular one that you like, you can then upgrade it accordingly.
Reset Skill Points
Lastly, we’ll briefly touch on how you can reset your skill points or Sparks in Black Myth Wukong. This will allow you to respec all your points if you feel like you want to upgrade a different stance or skill.
You can do this really easily by visiting any Keeper Shrine in the game which acts like a checkpoint. As far as we know, you can do this at any time you want.
That’s everything you need to know for the skill tree complete guide of Black Myth Wukong. Now, you have a comprehensive understanding of all the skill trees in the game. Don’t be afraid to experiment with the skill trees, as you can always reset them and get your skill points back!
