CS2 – What Is The Difference Between Premier & Competitive?

Competition is climbing to a new level.

Dust 2 Map

The newest game of the Counter-Strike franchise, CS2, has changed the previous game’s ranked system a bit by adding a new competitive mode: Premier. Players can now choose between two different modes, each offering its own progression system for the players to climb up the ladder. But what is the difference between Premier & Competetive game modes?

The Difference Between Premier & Competitive In CS2

While the standard Competitive Mode remains much less the same, the introduction of a second ranked system has taken the community by surprise.

The basic idea under the systems is very simple. Premier Mode will give you CS Ratings for any map, while in Competitive Mode you will have a separate rank for each map.

Premier Mode Explained

The newest addition to the franchise, Premier Mode is where players battle to earn CS Ratings. CS Rating is a number that will represent your overall Elo for any map.

In Premier Mode, it’s a pick and ban system instead of choosing the map you want to play like in Competitive. It’s like how map picking and banning works in pro matches. While your CS Rating is a number and not a rank, values line up with the traditional ranks:

  • 0-1999 Premier Rating: Silver 1- Silver Elite Master
  • 2000-5999 Premier rating: Gold Nova 1 – Gold Nova Master
  • 6000-8999 Premier rating: Master Guardian 1 – Master Guardian Elite
  • 9000-12,999 Premier rating: Distinguished Master Guardian – Legendary Eagle Master
  • 13,000-14,999 Premier rating: Supreme
  • 15,000+ Premier rating: Global Elite

Competitive Mode Explained

Competitive mode in CS2 is not much different from CS:GO. When you enter Competitive Mode, you select a map, and you get into the queue only with players who selected the same map. Your rank and Elo is recorded separately for each map.
