If you’re diving into Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and feeling a little overwhelmed by all the hidden side content, you’re not alone. The game loves to sneak important quests into unmarked corners. In this guide, I’m here to walk you through one of those easy-to-miss but super worthwhile side quests: the Demineur Side Quest (or at least that’s what I’m calling it, since the NPC’s name is Demineur). Trust me, you’ll want to complete this one, the reward is a Level 3 weapon for Lune called the Deminerim, and it’s a serious game-changer early on. Plus, there are a few extra goodies you can grab if you make the right choices. Let’s jump in!

Demineur Side Quest Guide

You’ll unlock the opportunity to find Demineur after progressing through the story and reuniting with Maelle. After she rejoins your party, you’ll eventually reach the Flying Waters region, specifically near the Noco’s Hut rest point.

Here’s what to do:

  1. From Noco’s Hut, move forward into the large open area with the ship wreckage in the middle.
  2. Ignore the main path and head right instead.
  3. Look for a big circular entrance (it looks like a toppled jar).
  4. Go inside, and you’ll find a pale, non-aggressive Demineur.

When you approach the Demineur, you’ll get three dialogue options: Examine, Attack, or Leave.

IMPORTANT: Choose Examine! If you attack right away, you’ll miss out on the quest (and the awesome weapon). If that happens, you’ll need to reload an earlier save.

Helping the Demineur: Finding the Intact Mine

After examining the Demineur, you’ll notice he’s missing his signature underwater mine. Your next job? Find one for him! Here’s the path to the Intact Mine:

  • If you fall, no worries, there’s a climbable wall nearby that lets you retry.
  • After interacting with the Demineur, head right (east).
  • Walk to the cliff edge and you’ll see a series of circular rock platforms.
  • Carefully jump across the platforms. (Tip: Use R2 + Jump for a longer leap if needed, sprinting a little helps too.)

Once across:

  • Look south and you’ll spot a purple glowing item in the distance.
  • Jump onto another rock ledge on your right, walk southward, and keep hopping toward the glow.
  • Pick up the item, this is the Intact Mine!

Returning to Demineur, and What Happens Next

With the Intact Mine in hand, head back to where Demineur is patiently waiting.

  • Interact with him again and give him the Intact Mine.
  • As a reward, you’ll receive the Deminerim weapon, a Level 3 weapon for Lune that deals Lightning damage, boosts luck scaling, and reduces Lightning skill costs when upgraded. Absolutely worth it!

Bonus: After giving him the Mine, you still have the option to attack him for extra loot, and this time, you don’t lose your weapon reward.

Should You Attack the Demineur?

If you choose to attack Demineur after helping him:

  • You’ll start a mini-boss fight.
  • The fight isn’t too tough (I did it on Medium difficulty without much trouble).
  • Demineur uses two main attacks:
    • Thunder Strike: Dodge when you hear the missile-like audio cue.
    • Mine Swing: A slow melee attack that’s easy to parry or dodge.
  • Tip: After giving him the Mine, you can shoot the new Underwater Mine to deal massive damage right at the start!

Weakness: Demineur is vulnerable to Electricity, so load up your team with Lightning skills like Gustave’s Marking Shot and Lune’s Thunderfall.

Rewards for Defeating Him:

  • 1x Chroma Catalyst
  • 3x Colour of Lumina

So yeah, attacking after helping = double rewards!

Wrap-Up

And that’s it! The Demineur Side Quest might seem simple, but it’s one of those easy-to-miss gems in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 that can seriously boost your early-game power. Taking a few minutes to explore and help a lonely little Demineur can set you up with a strong weapon and some bonus crafting materials, not a bad deal, right? Hope this guide helped you out! Good luck out there in the Continent, and remember: in Clair Obscur, it always pays to look around every corner.
