Ray Tracing is all the rage these days when it comes to graphics. No longer are we talking about high resolution character models or soft shadows: we are now in the stage of gaming where the reflections in the game must be perfected. However, Ray Tracing isn’t just all about reflections, but most people think about it when they try games with Ray Tracing. Speaking of, does the adorable little indie game, Stray, have it? Well, read on and you will find out yourself if Stray has Ray Tracing or not.
Stray – Does It Have Ray Tracing?
It does, but you need to do some tweaking.
When you launch Stray, you will notice that the game does not have Ray Tracing in its graphical options, which leads you to believe that there isn’t. However, there is Ray Tracing in Stray, but you will need to do some tweaking on your end.
To get Ray Tracing on, you will need to add -dx12 on the launch parameters of Stray. When you launch the game, you will see that with Ray Tracing on, the game looks 10x better. However, this takes a toll on your FPS. There is a reason why Ray Tracing is not officially released yet, and it is likely because the graphical option is very taxing, thus leading to low FPS.
If you want to experience the beauty of Stray with Ray Tracing, you can. But you will be sacrificing a lot of performance for graphical fidelity. I advise to wait until the devs themselves unlock the option for Ray Tracing, because that usually means they have tweaked the performance of the game to handle Ray Tracing.
