The idSoftware team has provided us with many timeless gems over the years.
Whether you first entered the space in the MS-DOS era under Cormack’s lead (initial DOOM releases), or you joined a few years ago with Hugo Martin’s DOOM Eternal, you obviously find slashing through hordes of monsters appealing.
Well, within less than a month, you’re going to be able to do that same thing on-the-go with the release of Mighty DOOM – a mobile, top-down rogue-lite shooter game.
It’s been in development for a long time now, but we finally received an official announcement stating that the game is to be released on the 21st of March on Android and iOS mobile devices.
What Should We Expect? DOOM Comes To Mobile
In case you aren’t sure about the terminology, “top-downshooter” refers to the perspective of the game, while rogue-lite is the subgenre that the team decided to go for. It’s a gun version of hack-and-slash games, often referred to as run-and-gun.
It’s a fun-packed arcade experience, perfect for a busy lifestyle and for those who can’t play in long sessions as you can drop it and pick it up again anytime you like.
For those of you who are familiar with the world of mobile games, you may have seen games of similar format to what Mighty DOOM is going to look like. Archero is likely one of the most famous examples of this type of game, and it was an absolute hit for years!
As is the case with most rogue-lites, Mighty DOOM’s Mini-Slayer character can be equipped with various guns and gear – a total of 8 equipment pieces (3 of which are gun slots), varying in rarity and stats.
Loot in general, be it currency or gear, drops on mob and boss kills throughout every run, but you have to finish the run (dying also counts) in order to actually obtain it.
Once you do, looted drops are carried over to your permanent inventory, from which you build your character out the way that fits your playstyle the most.
Mighty DOOM is going to be very different from anything we’ve seen in the well-known DOOM universe so far. It should be a unique and interesting experience, one we should go into with open-mindedness.
Head over to the Play Store or App Store and pre-register so you can play as soon as 21st March comes!
