Dungeons in MMORPGs is always fun to go through specially if you don’t know the mechanics. Some people like to go through the place blind and learn the mechanics as they go through. I know me and my friends like doing that but sometimes we just don’t understand some of the mechanics. That’s where you go ask other people or look online for what the mechanics are.
In Elder Scrolls Online there’s a lot of different dungeons and all of them have different boss mechanics. In this guide we’ll show you the mechanics for the Bal Sunnar Dungeon in the game. So if you don’t want to in blind you can use this guide! Now let’s see what this dungeon has to offer!
Bal Sunnar Dungeon Guide | Elder Scrolls Online
There’s a lot of trash mobs on the way to the first boss of Bal Sunnar but most of them are your standard mobs. What you should keep an eye out for is the Nix-Ox which can drop these orbs on the ground. The orbs will tether to one player, and they need to kill it or interrupt it. Failing to do so in 9 seconds will insta-kill the player.
Kovan Giryon
The first boss of Bal Sunnar has a lot of mechanics you’ll need to know. The first one being Manipulate which will make an AOE that is centered around the players. Make sure to not let the other players step on your AOE or it’ll do extra damage. This AOE cannot be purged, but healing and shielding allies can help.
Another mechanic is Fold where the boss will teleport to a random group member and drop down doing an AOE attack. This attack can be blocked or dodge-rolled so keep that in mind. The boss will also spawn a green clone in the air. After 6 seconds the clone will turn orange and do the AOE attack when someone gets close. In Hard Mode the AOE will leave behind another AOE attack that lasts for 8 seconds. Move out of the way of the DoT AOE since it ticks fast. The clones will also create that AOE in hard mode.
The next one is Verge, which is when the Tank is far away from the boss. This can happen when he uses Fold, he will then dash into the Tank dealing AOE Damage. Like Fold he spawns another clone that will dash at a player and do the same attack when they’re nearby.
The next mechanic is Rift, which the boss will shoot a high damage beam across the map. You can’t block or dodge-roll this so best to just stay away. Like the other abilities it also drops clones that do the same attack when you get in front of them.
When the Boss hits 70%, 45% and 20% HP he will go to the center of the arena and be invulnerable. One big add along with lots of small adds will spawn, tanks need to taunt the adds. The phase ends when the big add dies, making the boss vulnerable as he casts Fold.
At 20% HP no big add will spawn, instead the boss will go out of the invulnerable state and fight till the end.
Roksa the Warped
Remember that orb that spawns in the beginning that can insta-kill you? This is where it’s going to be a mechanic. During the fight the boss will often spawn these, and you need to kill the orbs or interrupt them. It’s highly suggested to have a couple of interrupts, including the tank. That is because later when there’s wraithstorm, only the tank can survive going to the orb.
Another mechanic is Wraithstorm, this is the smaller version. The arena will become dark, and you’ll be attacked by wraiths that you can’t kill. There are two safe zones, one around the NPC and one around the boss. Be sure the tank goes to the boss, or the boss will keep on casting Spitfire and might fill the other safe zone.
At 70% and 40% HP the boss will leave the arena and a Wraithstorm starts. The only safe zone is around the NPC and mobs will spawn.
After killing the adds the boss will then shoot a beam at the tank. The beam lasts for 9 seconds and ticks every half a second. That means you’ll have to block 18 damage ticks, but the beam gets stronger the longer it goes so you can get away with not blocking the early ticks to save stamina. The beam can damage other players so make sure the tank is safe and away from the other players.
During the beam the boss also shoots spitfire around the members, make sure they kite it and not place them on the tank.
In hard mode there are 3 beams but it doesn’t increase the amounts of ticks. The 3 beams just increase the damage. Also in hard mode, the adds will continue to spawn after the wraithstorm so keep that in mind!
Matriarch Lladi Telvanni
The first mechanic for this boss is the Pus Sack, which spawns an AOE around the players. It can be dodge-rolled, make sure you don’t overlap the AOE circles.
The next is Plague of Insects, which is basically the boss charging at one direction dropping AOE circles on its path.
Infectious Vomit is a cone attack that is targeted on the tank. The tank must block the damage or else they’ll get infected and shoot out a damaging cone as well. If this happens make sure to not face your allies.
At 70% and 40% HP the boss will use Plague of Insects to charge into the middle of the arena. The boss will then cast Choking Pestilence. The boss will be invulnerable and will do an arena-wide 30 second AOE. 4 Adds will spawn as well as a single shard of time. Walking up to the Shard of Time and using the synergy will stun all the adds.
Healing is a must in the phase as well as the tank keeping Major and Minor Maim on the boss to lower damage.
In Hard Mode the adds can only be damaged when they’re stunned by the Shard of Time.
The next one is Meat throw where the boss throws a slime at a random player. The tank has to taunt it since it will periodically snare anyone around it.
A Hard mode only mechanic is the Skeevers. Skeevers will spawn and will focus down a random group member. These skeevers can’t be taunted but they can be snared. The group will need to focus these Skeevers down since they give a massive healing debuff. Having that debuff during the Choking Pestilence is guaranteed death.
