The Thralls of Twilight update has landed in Enshrouded, and with it comes a whole new layer of mechanics, loot, and late-game progression. Whether you’re a Shroud-hardened veteran or jumping in fresh, this guide covers essential tips to help you make the most of the update, from game-changing gear to obscure secrets no one tells you about.
We’ll dig into the new blocks, how to unlock Shroud armor, the addition of Gem Forges, Night Sanctums, the dreaded moth farming, and much more. Let’s dive in and make sure you don’t miss a thing.
Tips and Tricks (Blocks, Shroud armor, Artifacts & More)
The Thralls of Twilight update is all about danger in the dark. The devs have doubled down on nighttime content, with new enemies, POIs, puzzles, and materials that only appear when the sun goes down. Shroud mechanics are deeper, loot has been reshuffled, and most of the best materials are now locked behind specific conditions or regions.
The gear grind is different, the world has changed, and the stakes are higher. Here’s everything you need to know, broken down into bite-sized tips, so you can get in, get what you need, and get out alive.

Tip #1: Night Settings & Farming Time
To make the most of this update, go into your save file settings and extend the length of night. Many new resources, like Fresh Spores, Pack Wolves, and moths, are night-only. Having more darkness means more farming time and fewer missed opportunities.
Tip #2: Backpack Upgrade (But You’ll Need a New One)
If you’re seeing a big red “X” over your backpack, don’t panic. Backpacks have been updated with an extra row of inventory slots, but your old ones won’t auto-upgrade. Craft a brand-new one to unlock that juicy extra space.
Tip #3: Gem Slots, Weapon Tips & Bugs
Weapons can now roll with gem slots, but this doesn’t apply to old weapons. You’ll need to refarm legendaries or pick up new drops to take advantage.
- Legendary weapons are guaranteed to have gem slots.
- Lower-tier weapons have a chance to roll with one.
- After upgrading a gem, you may need to unequip and re-equip your weapon to see correct buff values. This is a known bug, expect a few more with the new system.
Important: Don’t scrap your old legendaries unless you’ve got a better one with gem slots ready to go. They’re harder to find now.

Tip #4: Legendary Runes – How to Get Them
Legendary Runes are used to upgrade endgame gear, but can’t be salvaged from gear.
Here’s how to get them:
- Farm bosses, elites, and mini-bosses.
- Unlock the Legendary Rune crafting option at the Blacksmith after obtaining one.
- Craft at a 25-to-1 ratio with regular runes (painful, don’t do it unless you’re desperate).
Tip #5: Pack Wolves & Fell Spores
At night, keep your eyes out for Pack Wolves (they have bags strapped to them). They drop refined biome-specific mats and respawn at fixed points. Mark those spots for efficient farming.
Also, hunt down Fell enemy groups. They drop Fresh Sprout Spores, which are vital for new crafting recipes. You’ll need lots.
Tip #6: New Map Markers & POIs
You’ll start seeing new question marks (?) pop up on your map. These might be:
- Gem Forges: Upgrade, insert, or remove gems.
- Shroud Layers: Farm Archaic Essence.
- Night Sanctums: Puzzle dungeons with loot, lore, and rare chests.
There are 16 Sanctums total, not all are marked. Explore thoroughly.

Tip #7: Gem Upgrades & Archaic Essence Tips
- Gem upgrade caps depend on the biome. In Albaneve Summits, you can level gems to 40+.
- Don’t waste Essence leveling a Tier 7 gem. Wait until you find a higher-tier version.
- Avoid using Forges inside Night Sanctums unless necessary, each entry costs 1 Spark, and it resets after a reload.
You can also mine glowing orange essence nodes with your Pike near Spawners and in Shroud caves.
Tip #8: Fell Spawners & Hidden Caves
Destroying Spawners often reveals hidden passages, side caves, and bonus loot. Inside, look for glowing plants and mineable essence spots around them.
Tip #9: Fell Bosses & Shroud Armor
Summon Fell bosses with a Shroud Core or Nexus at marked circles. Rewards are randomized and often include:
- Monstrous Ribs, which unlock Shroud Armor (Level 16 cosmetic sets)
- Legendary Runes, rare mats, and more

Tip #10: New Building Blocks – Where to Find Them
Three new block sets have been added:
- Desert Shingle Roof – Sapphire Stand, found west of Kindlewastes Spire. Look for the chest on top of a rooftop near a broken bridge.

- Midnight Tomb Block – Catacombs, east of Balefire Stronghold “Lance Point” in Albaneve Summits. Enter the tomb, clear the spiders, and loot the golden coffin.

- Starlight Block – (arguably the best): Located in an unmarked Night Sanctum northeast of Balefire Garrison Skillfrost. Use a Spark (nighttime) to open the door, explore the loop, and loot the silver chest at the T-junction.

Tip #11: Crafting Menu Improvements
Crafting stations now show resource descriptions, including whether something is night-exclusive, Shroud-only, or biome-specific. HUGE quality-of-life change.
Tip #12: New Spells
- Shroud Beam Channel – Drops from Fell Cyclops.
- Heal Beam Channel – Drops from Fell Hearts in Kindlewaste.
Tip #13: Flare Seedlings, Shroud Soil & Adhesive
- Critter Carapace lets you craft Flare Seedlings for Shroud Adhesive.
- Plant them in any soil, Shroud Soil just grows them faster.
- Normal seeds can’t grow in Shroud Soil.
Tip #14: Curses & the Elusive Moth
Too much poison or Shroud exposure now causes curses, like Hemotoxin and Spellburn. These won’t go away when you die, you’ll need special antidotes.
The kicker? Hemotoxin cures need moths, and they’re ridiculously rare.
- Supposedly found in Revelwood at night.
- Most reliable spot: Black Mire, near the Ancient Spire (right of the road to Glennwood’s End).
- Even there, expect to spend several in-game nights looking for them.
You can turn off curses in world settings if you value your sanity.

Tip #15: New Enemy – Floating Squids
Floating, tentacled enemies that shoot projectiles:
- Ranged builds: Snipe them fast.
- Melee builds: Parry the shots.
- Everyone: Don’t stand under them. It’s a bad time.
Tip #16: World Changes & New Content
- Some old villages are now small cities.
- More enemy patrols at night, often with double the enemies.
- New gear (rumored weapons and armor).
- A Barber has been added for cosmetic customization.
Tip #17: Red Gem Location
Want that tutorial quest red gem? Head to the Shroud near Pillars of Creation, follow the path to a marked cave by a Gem Forge. Look for the question mark on the map to trigger the event.

Wrap-Up & Final Tips
- Re-explore everything — many zones have changed, and new POIs have been added everywhere.
- Save before Spark use — to avoid burning through them.
- Check crafting menus often — many new unlocks are hidden behind rare drops.
- Don’t expect perfection — there are still bugs, including stat refresh issues after gem upgrades.
That’s a wrap on the Thralls of Twilight guide, and if you made it this far, you’re probably knee-deep in Shroud essence and wondering if moths are even real. (They are. Barely.)
To be honest, this update adds some of the most compelling, and challenging, systems we’ve seen yet in Enshrouded. Between the puzzle-filled Sanctums, biome-specific progression, new building sets, and reworked loot tables, it finally feels like the game has a proper endgame loop. But it’s not without quirks. Expect bugs. Expect mystery. Expect to open your map 400 times a session.
Hopefully my guide gave you a few shortcuts, saved you a couple headaches, or at least helped you track down that one cursed crafting material that nobody talks about. Up next, consinder checking out my guide on how to get the Dragon’s Wing legendary bow in Enshrouded: Thralls of Twilight!
