It’s all fun and games until you get lost in The Backrooms. Then again, there’s a chance that you wanted this to happen in the first place since you’re fascinated with abstract concepts like liminal space. Well now it’s happening, and you’re in the thick of things.

You’re lucky that you even got as far as level five without succumbing to the insanity that you’ve seen so far. The worst is yet to come so we’ll be right here, sitting pretty on your second monitor providing you with a guide that you can use to push on through!

The Backrooms Level Five Guide

There’s three sections on this level that you will have to clear in order to survive and move on to the next level. These sections include the Entry Floor, Hotel, and the Boiler Room where the exit is.

Here’s a quick summary of what you need to do to clear the level:

  1. Hit the switches underneath the portraits in the lobby to escape.
  2. Search the whole floor for moths and spray them to get moth jelly.
  3. Open the elevator in front of the lobby.
  4. Search the hotel proper for seven pieces of paper (one of them is intentionally left blank).
  5. Go through the Boiler Room and reach the exit!

The Lobby

To get out of the lobby, you have to hit the switches beneath the four portraits. All of them can be found inside of the room since you’re locked in. The order should begin from the youngest to the oldest. The youngest portrait can be found immediately to your right, the second portrait is also to the right, next to the counter where the bug spray is.

Now on to the third portrait. It’s on the left side of the door that you spawned next to. Stick to the left to find the fourth portrait behind the couch and across the counter.

With all that out of the way, the door will open, as if it had a mind of its own. Grab the bug spray on the counter as you will be needing that for your next objective.

In front of you will be a glass door barred by three locks. If you take a left turn while heading out of the lobby, you’ll run into a dumb waiter at the end of the corridor. You need to feed this contraption three Moth Jelly in order for it to give you three keys. These three keys will open the door in front of the lobby.

To get Moth Jelly, you need to search the whole floor for Male Death Moths. Once you find some, use the bug spray to get moth jelly out of them. Their location placement is completely random, so you’ll have to listen to the sound they make whenever you get close enough. You can even find a group of moths in the bathrooms where there’s not much light!

Gather enough moth jelly and return to the dumb waiter to get your keys. After that, you can go back to the locked door in front of the lobby.

Unlock the door and ride the elevator to get to the next floor of the hotel. Once you’re free from the elevator, move forward to see the lockers.

In this section, you have to check the numbers of the open lockers. These open lockers correspond to the rooms you need to visit on this floor.

Hotel Rooms

You have seven random rooms in total that you need to go inside of. Each room will have pieces of paper that will eventually spell out “LOOK UP.” One of the papers will be intentionally left blank. Also, you have two friends on this floor that you’ll be dancing with: the Hound, and the Skin-Stealer. Hide under the bed or inside of the closet when running isn’t an option. You can come out of the closet when the coast is clear.

Bring the letters back to the lockers. Make sure that the number of the locker and the room match. Once everything is in place, a code will appear on the ceiling. Again, the code will be completely random.

Use the code that you found to unlock room 235. The room is directly to the right of the lockers where you put the papers in. Get that open and it will lead you into the Boiler Room.

Boiler Room

The boiler room has the most confusing layout among all sections. Stick close as there’s only one path that leads to the exit. You’ll also have segments of the boiler room where you have to remain crouched in order to avoid the wrath of the Female Death Moths. To start things off, use the right doorway at the beginning.

Turn left once you get out, and make another left turn at the end of the corridor.

Once you end up in the next corridor, immediately turn right at the first doorway. Turn right again once you get in.

While you’re facing this doorway, go inside and follow up with a left turn. Keep going straight and you’ll end up with a red valve to your right. Turn it on to prevent the moths from passing through. After that, go through the doorway in front of you.

The room will go dark so turn right and keep going straight. You’ll come across another boiler so go around that and proceed to the next room.

Here we have Alexis, he's been gaming ever since the second Famicom came out. Which is probably the reason why he goes back to platformers every now and then. Somewhere down the line he started getting more and more fascinated about looking at maps change colors for three to eight hours straight. If he's not out strategizing and beating the life out of his space bar in that order there's a good chance you can find him playing an FPS or talking someone's ear out about how game balance gets in the way of realism. You can tell that he really likes getting the full experience of whatever he gets his hands on.
