Elder Scrolls Online is not really the “Elder Scrolls with co-op” that many people wanted but it’s still one of the better MMOs out there. That title isn’t really that high of a bar since the decline of the genre a long time ago but at least this one is behind a long standing universe, well also WoW and Final Fantasy but in those games you can’t be a cat person…oh wait. Anyway, ESO has a lot of guilds you can join and we’re not talking about player guilds but in-universe guilds like the Fighter’s Guild, Mages guild and so on. In this guide we’ll show you what each guild has to offer so you can choose, or join them all!
Which NPC Guilds Should You Join In ESO?
Why join guilds in ESO anyway? Well, joining guilds has been long part of the Elder Scrolls franchise since Morrowind, and they usually have interesting quests involved in them. One can’t forget the seedy under takings of the Morag Tong in Morrowind, or the amazing Dark Brotherhood quest line in Oblivion, or the College of Winterhold quest line in Skyrim which you can complete without casting a single spell.
In ESO there’s a lot of different guilds and each one of them has a quest line that you can follow! Not only that but each guild can give you some great skills and some of them are must-haves for certain builds! Now, how do you join these guilds?
Joining Guilds
The easiest guilds to join is the Fighter and Mages guild, and you can even join both at the same time. To do so the easiest way is to go to Vivec City and look for the Mages/Fighter Guild Handbills scattered around town. This will start a quest that will send you to the respective guilds so you can start their quest lines!
For the Psijic Order you’ll need to head to the Shimmerene Wayshrine in Summerset and talk to the NPC Calibar. This will start a quest chain with the starting one being called “The Queen’s Decree” that will let you go to Artaeum where you can then join the Psijic Order!
The next one is the Undaunted which is a guild you specifically join to get Undaunted gear, well at least that’s why I joined them. You can talk to Mighty Mordra in Daggerfall which is in Glenumbra. She’ll be found in the Rosy Lion inn.
For the sneaky types, you can join the Thieves Guild which can be found Hews Bane, in the wayshrine there you can talk to Quen to start the quest line.
Fighters Guild
The guild for those who like white bread, and like hitting stuff with a stick. The Fighter’s guild offers an okay story line for my opinion, it’s no Companions but in terms of the skills it offers you can get a lot for certain builds as well as the Intimidating Presence passive that lets you intimidate. It also has a passive that lets you do Bounty Quests in Cyrodill if you want to do that.
Mages Guild
Personally a more interesting quest line but more of a pain to level up because you have to look for books around the map to actually gain experience. Besides being made fun of for being a literal book finding nerd, the skills the Mages guild does give you can be quite flashy. They also have the Passive Will skill that lets you persuade in certain quests, and I personally think the passives are way better in the Mages guild in both PVE and PVP.
Undaunted
Join the Undaunted, this is not a suggestion it’s an order. Everyone and their mother wants the Undaunted passives because it works for everyone, and the gear that you can get in the Undaunted are basically extra skills or spells that come with your helmet and pauldrons. Getting the right Undaunted gear can either be grindy or RNG and grindy but the rewards are worth it. A must for both PVP and PVE players to join.
Psijic Order
It requires the Summerset DLC to join and is even more of a hassle to level up compared to the Mages Guild. The Skills this guild gives you can be great for certain PVP and PVE builds and their best thing to offer are the passive skills. The See the Unseen passive skill lets you find Psijic Portals that can give some great loot.
Dark Brotherhood
Probably the best guild for the story which is a running thing in the Elder Scrolls game for some reason. You need a DLC to join this guild but it’s worth it. The Dark Brotherhood gives you the Blade of Woe that lets you assassinate NPCs, need I say more? For characters that love to RP, or for people who just want to instakill NPCs and enemies with the Blade of Woe, this is the guild for you.
Thieves Guild
You need to have a DLC to join and is my number one money making guild. You get to steal a lot of stuff, have access to better fences, do daily heists that give you even more money and the story with it isn’t that bad. Not a guild you’d want to have for all characters, but great for your money making one.
Congratulations you now know how to join each guild and what each provides for the player, now join the one that interests you or join all of them!
