Farming Simulator 25 isn’t all about growing and harvesting crops, oh no! There are chickens in this game too. In this guide, I will cover everything you need to know about raising chickens in Farming Simulator 25. From building a coop, growing and harvesting food, to buying and caring for chickens, I’ve got you covered. Chickens can be a profitable addition to your farm, especially with the high value of eggs.
Complete Chicken Guide
How to Build a Chicken Coop
The first step in raising chickens is to build a chicken coop. Here’s how you can do it:
- Open the Construction Menu:
- Navigate to the “Construction” menu from the main game interface.
- Select the Animals Tab:
- Within the Construction menu, find and select the “Animals” tab.
- Choose Chickens:
- Scroll through the available animal options until you find “Chickens.”
- Select Your Coop:
- Choose the size of the chicken coop that fits your needs. Unlike other animal pens, you cannot expand a chicken pen using a fence. The capacity shown in the bottom left of the selection menu is the maximum number of chickens you can have in that coop.
- If you plan to raise a large number of chickens, select the biggest building available to accommodate them.
- Place the Coop:
- Place the coop in your desired location on your farm. Make sure it’s easily accessible for feeding and egg collection.
The second and probably most important step is chicken food. Players will need to cultivate, grow, and harvest crops which can be used to feed chicken. My recommendation is using Barley.
How to Get Chickens
Once your coop is ready, it’s time to get some chickens!
First thing you need to do is access the purchase menu by clicking on the paw icon near your coop.
There are two menus: one for buying (incoming) and one for selling (outgoing) chickens. Younger chickens are cheaper but take longer to start producing eggs. If you want immediate egg production, buy adult chickens.
Select the number of chickens you want to purchase and confirm the transaction. They will be added to your coop.

Plow A Field
The first step is to pick your field and plow it. You can use any plow and it goes without saying that the more expensive a plow is, usually the bigger and better it is.
Fully plow an entire field to complete this step. If you don’t want to do that much work, you can use AI workers or the in-built steering assist feature!
Cultivate the Field
After plowing, use a cultivator to prepare the field. Cultivating increases the yield when your crops finish growing. Attach the cultivator to your tractor, activate it, and cultivate the entire field.
Same as a plow, the more expensive a cultivator is, the better, the quicker, and the bigger a cultivator is. In any case though, players can also use cheaper equipment if they’re just starting out.
Soil Composition (optional)
Check the soil composition map to address issues like stones, weeds, and the need for rolling. Removing these can increase your yield but are optional steps.
Use the map and the soil composition menu to evaluate your fields’ soil composition.
Fertilize & Seed
Use a combination seeder that can fertilize and seed simultaneously to save time. I don’t recommend cheeping out and getting a separate fertilizer and seeder as players will have to do twice the work for each field.
Anyways, any combination seeder will do fine here, just make sure to attach fertilizer distribution unit when buying the seeder.
After that, fill up the seeder with BARLEY seeds and fertilizer from your farm’s silos (park near them and then use the FILL option in the top-left menu).
IMPORTANT: Make sure to select Barley before you begin seeding.
Activate the seeder, and it will plant seeds and fertilize the field at the same time.
Fertilization Stages (optional)
For maximum yield, fertilize the field once and it will turn light blue on the map, then fertilize again after a month to turn it dark blue. This will substantially increase yield.

Harvesting Chicken Food
Barley will take about 8 to 10 months to grow. Use your Farmhouse to rest and pass the time until the crops are harvestable. Once your crops are ready, it’s time to harvest!
TIP: To know when the Barley is harvestable, use the map and select “Ready to Harvest” filter from the menu.
Step 1: Harvest
Use a combine harvester with the appropriate header to collect the crops. You can choose to have the harvester leave the straw on the field or collect it in a line for baling later. If you’re still new, I recommend leaving the straw on the field.
Step 2: Load Into a Trailer & Transport to Coop
Once harvested, load the crops into a trailer. To do this, simply extend the arm of the combine harvester, park the trailer under the combine and start unloading the combine harvester.
Transport the harvested crops to the chicken coop.
Step 3: Feed the Chickens
Feeding your chickens is straightforward:
- Fill the feeder:
- Approach the feed trough with the trailer full of harvested grain.
- Use the prompt at the bottom center of the screen to pour the grain into the trough. Be careful and wait for the prompt in the bottom-middle of the screen because if you unload in the wrong place you risk losing all the barley.
- Ensure that the chickens always have enough food.
Keeping Chickens Healthy
To ensure your chickens remain productive, keep an eye on their health. You can do this by checking the stats on your coop. Simply, hover over with your mouse when near the chicken coop and you will be able to see your chicken coop’s stats in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
Regularly check this for a breakdown of the chickens’ stats, including food levels and health.
Ensure that chickens always have enough food and are kept in good health for optimal egg production.
How to Get Chicken Eggs
Chickens will lay eggs automatically in designated areas of the coop. Look for the area in the coop marked with caution tape where eggs are laid. Collect the eggs regularly to prevent overcrowding and maximize production. Kindly take a look at the image below for reference:
How to Move & Sell Chicken Eggs
Eggs can be sold for a good profit. Use the prices map to monitor egg prices, as they fluctuate. Sell eggs when prices are high to maximize profits.
Transporting and selling eggs involves a few steps:
- Choose a Vehicle:
- For large quantities of eggs, use a large trailer. For smaller quantities, a flatbed truck works fine.
- Ensure you have a forklift or telescopic handler to load the egg pallets onto the vehicle. I used a forklift to lift the pallet and put it on a trailer.
- Load and Secure Eggs:
- Place the egg pallets onto the vehicle. Use the advanced options to close the hatch and fasten the security belts to keep the pallets secure.
- Sell Eggs:
- Highlight the desired sell location on the prices map and navigate there. Unfasten the security belts at the destination to sell the eggs automatically.
Wrap Up
That concludes my guide on chickens in Farming Simulator 25. From my experience, chickens are pretty easy to profit off of and can be cared for with minor maintenance. Again, as I said before, chicken coops cannot be expanded and the maximum holding capacity of chickens cannot be increased. If players want to expand, I recommend keeping your old coop and building a new one with a higher capacity.
