In Farming Simulator 25, weeds aren’t just an eyesore on your field—they’re serious business. If you leave them unchecked, they can reduce your crop yield by up to 15%. That’s a big chunk of potential profit down the drain! But hey, if you’re not feeling the whole weed-pulling thing, you can always turn them off in the settings. If you’re like me and want to stick it out but could use a little help, don’t worry—I’ve got all the tips and tricks you need to make weed removal way less of a hassle!
How To Remove Weeds
Weeds come in three stages: small, medium, and large. The key to success is catching them early, before they can do too much damage.
- Small Weeds: These are easy to get rid of with a weeder or hoe. They won’t put up much of a fight.
- Medium Weeds: You’ll need the hoe or a weeder to take care of these.
- Large Weeds: You’ll need to bring out the herbicide sprayer. Regular weeders and hoes are no match for these big guys.
But don’t worry, if you miss the smaller stages, there are still ways to get rid of them. I’ll show you.
Preventing Weeds in the First Place
Here’s the best way to deal with weeds: don’t let them grow in the first place. Plowing your field or using a subsoiler will stop those pesky weeds before they even show up. And just so you know, deep cultivation methods also help keep them at bay. Trust me, prevention is way easier than dealing with a full-on weed invasion.

How to Check for Weeds
To check if weeds are making themselves at home in your field, go to the Growth tab and select Soil Composition. Small weeds will be light green, medium ones darker, and once you’ve taken care of them, the field will show brown patches. You can also check the Field Info in the bottom-right corner of your screen, but only if you’ve enabled it in the settings. (For PC users, pressing F1 will bring up this helpful info.)
Using Herbicide Sprayers vs. Weeders
There are two main ways to remove weeds: herbicide sprayers and weeders. Both have their advantages, so it’s important to know when to use each.
- Herbicide Sprayers: These are your go-to solution for weeds of any size. They’ll work on small, medium, or large weeds, making them the easiest way to deal with a full weed problem. The downside? You have to buy herbicide, which can get pricey. Herbicide sprayers are pretty straightforward to use, but I’ll walk through the process:
- Buy Herbicide: Head to the store and grab some herbicide.
- Refuel the Sprayer: Get the sprayer ready by pressing R while near the herbicide pallet.
- Unfold the Sprayer: Hit X to unfold it, then turn it on.
- Spray Away: Drive over the weeds, and they’ll disappear in real time! Adjust the width of the spray by pressing Left Control + Z to avoid wasting herbicide.
- Weeders: These are cheaper and easier to use, but they only work on small and medium weeds. Once the weeds grow too large, you’ll need to switch to a sprayer. Here’s how to use them:
- Unfold the Weeder or Hoe: Press X to unfold your tool.
- Lower It Down: Press V to lower the tool to the ground.
- Drive Over the Field: Drive across the field, and watch the weeds get physically pulled from the soil. It’s like you’re on a mission to give your crops a fresh start!
Quick Word on Using Sprayers & Weeders + Issues about AI Workers
If you’re using a sprayer or weeder, make sure you’re using narrow tires. Otherwise, you could accidentally damage your crops, especially if crop destruction is enabled. Narrow tires are your best bet, and most sprayers come with them by default.
Experiencing AI worker troubles? I’ve seen a few folks running into issues with the AI workers when trying to use weeders. They might give you an error like “field not found,” especially with the smaller weeders. If that’s happening to you, try using the hoe instead. I’ve been able to get it working on contracts, and it might do the trick for you too. So far, it’s been working for me, and it’s a lot less frustrating than fighting with the AI!
Wrapping Up
And that’s a wrap on weed removal in Farming Simulator 25! Weeds don’t stand a chance now that you’ve got all the tools and tricks to handle them. Remember, it’s all about staying on top of things and not letting those weeds get out of control.
Also, you might be wondering, “Is there any yield loss if I spray herbicide too early?” Well, I’ve seen tests that show spraying herbicide when the weeds are large does affect yield—there’s a slight drop, but it’s not drastic. On the flip side, using a weeder gives you a bonus for actually removing the weeds from the field, and it’s cheaper than buying herbicide over and over. So, if you’re aiming for maximum yield, get ahead of the weeds with a weeder!
