The most common question asked when playing these simulation games is what should be the first thing you build. Some games answer this for you by giving you only one thing to build when playing through the tutorial, but other games give you many options from the get go, forcing players to think before making any moves. Starting strong is a good way to set the mood of the game, and doing so will bring you satisfaction that you made the right choice. So, what is the best thing to build first in Farthest Frontier? Read more and find out.

What You Should Build First – Farthest Frontier

In Farthest Frontier, there are actually a couple of things you need to build in order to get a good start. These are prioritized first, so you should always build these structures when you get the chance to do so. First up is the well. When you start the game, your villagers will get thirsty really quickly before getting hungry. Getting water is your first task to get your villagers to survive longer.

Homes can be built before or after the well, but it is recommended to build at least 4 to 6 homes, as there are a lot of villagers when you start and making only 1 to 3 will not be enough. It’s also recommended to build these near the well if you can. If not, just build them within range of the well.

Next up is the Forager Shack. This structure allows you to store food like fruits and herbs for medicine. This will get you to survive on food for a bit until you can start hunting animals for their meat and hides. The ideal spot for the Forager Shack is areas where there are a lot of berries or other food items. Once built, the villagers in charge will go out and collect.

Next up is the Firewood Splitter structure. This structure is in charge of keeping all of the homes warm, as it its cold in the frontier. You can also use the firewood produced to fuel the workers into doing more work, so that’s also a plus. You don’t have to put them in a specific spot, but they do work better if they have tools.

After that, your next structure should be the Hunters Cabin. This cabin will be in charge of the food, as the villager in charge will go out to hunt for deer in the woods. You have to place this cabin in an area where you see a Deer Sighted marker. Place the cabin just a bit far away to avoid scaring the deer, and let them do the work.

You can find deer sightings by looking around your area through roads. Building roads allows you to check the area more thoroughly and will show more markers for berries or deer. Or, you can just send a random villager to a location and they will do the scouting for you.

Another source of food you can get if you don’t have a lot of deer in the area and are not to the water is the Fishing Shack. Placing them near a Shoal of Fish marker in the water will result in more fish, but you can place them anywhere near the water. We recommended to place at least 2 Fishing Shacks though, for more fishes.

Once you have your meat, be it deer or fish, build a Smokehouse. This structure’s purpose is to get your meat to last as long as possible. Without a Smokehouse, the meat will go bad very quickly. We advise that you have this built before you start building the Hunting Cabin or Fishing Shack.

After you get the essential buildings done, you should build the following structures to make the gameplay proceed smoothly. First is the Basket Shop. This will allow your villagers to carry more items than normal, which is perfect for hunters and fishermen.

Another building to have afterwards is the Stockyard. You can keep materials such as logs and stone here for future use, and upgrading the Stockyard will increase the amount it can hold. Build at least 2 Stockyard when you get the chance.

Lastly, and this is completely optional, you should place decorations around homes. This will increase the Desirability of a home. You will be able to upgrade it once it reaches 30%. Again, completely optional, but at least put the effort into making your village look nice.
