Step 1: Meet Brother Feng (Cries in the Distance Quest Location)
Head to the location marked on your map. Jump down to trigger the mission and follow the cries, that’s where the quest begins.
You’ll soon discover that Brother Feng is trapped behind a wall. To free him:
- Shoot fire arrows at the vines blocking the way.
- Grab the chest nearby.
- Stand on the marked circle to release him.
Head into the puzzle chamber during the main quest. You’ll spot a timepiece-looking contraption and a prompt to talk to Brother Feng to unravel the Tai Chi mysteries.
He’ll explain the puzzle (Feng Jisheng Ying-Yang Dial Rotate Puzzle):
- Your goal is to get the Water and Fire elements opposite each other.
- Spin the discs and adjust the statues into the correct positions.
Quick tip: Pay attention to his hints, they’ll save you a lot of trial and error.
Step 2: Understand the Statues
Here’s the key to solving the Yin-Yang puzzle:
- Heaven & Earth statues → move independently; should face each other.
- Water & Fire statues → move together; must face opposite directions.
Watch for white mist flowing from a statue, it’s locked and cannot be rotated until the mist disappears.
Step 3: Rotate the Discs
- On console, use the right analog stick to cycle through rotation options.
- Start with the center Yin-Yang disc. Rotating it clockwise twice is usually a safe bet.
- Then rotate the outer statues/pillars.
Look for visual cues: a subtle energy flow or water glow appears when statues are aligned correctly.
Tip: Optional chests are scattered throughout, grab them for extra loot!
Step 4: Lock the Combination & Solve the Ying-Yang Puzzle
Once all statues are in position:
- Rotate the center Yin-Yang disc until the puzzle locks.
- Double-check:
- Heaven ↔ Earth facing each other
- Water ↔ Fire facing away
If everything is correct, the puzzle completes and your path forward opens.
Step 5: Explore and Collect Items
In the next room:
- Interact with everything, scripts and a Jade rock are needed to progress.
- Place semi-circular jade pieces into grooves to unlock the next area.
Step 6: The Albino Bear Challenge
Now for a fun combat puzzle:
- Equip your Tai Chi Mystic Skill.
- Pick up the albino bear using your skill.
- Slam it into three piles of rocks.
Defeating the bear rewards you with three golden chests and gives your first real chance to practice the Tai Chi Mystic Skill.
Step 7: Complete the Side Mission
After looting the chests, speak to Fong again. That’s it, the Cries in the Distance side mission is complete!
