After you have finished the Main Quest 6: The Reckoning, you will be eligible to unlock and activate the side quest Songs of the Sands.

The Song of the Sands is a favor which means that its progress is not significant in the progress of the main game story plot.

You can either do it or not. However, there are incentives given such as runic abilities, items, and collectibles after you complete it.

In this guide, we will tell you how to complete this side quest and get all the rewards after that.

How to Free the Hafgufas in Songs of the Sands Favour in God of War Ragnarok

This side quest, Song of the Sands will automatically start after going to The Forbidden Sands located in Alfheim, given that you have already finished the Main Quest 6: The Reckoning.

Once the side quest has started, you will be given 4 game objectives that you have to successfully finish.

These are:

• Find the Hafgufa Cave Entrance
• Reach the Hafgufa
• Destroy the Hafgufa’s Bindings
• Open the Hive Cage.

Find the Hafgufa Cave Entrance

Start looking for the Hafgufa cave entrance by going to the marked area in the picture located in The Barrens in Alfheim.

From the shore, move over to the incomplete rune slate on the side. Interact with this, and it will eventually open the large gate.

Once the gate opens, interact with the sleigh on the other side to enter the area.

Eventually, you will see an entrance to a cave. Freya and Kratos will get off the sleigh.

Reach the Hafgufa

Enter the entrance that you have seen and carefully climb down.

Upon landing, you will see a path blocked by soundstone. Destroy this to make a way.

When you are already inside, you will see different paths–choose the straight path. Grapple your way to cross to the other side, and keep moving down.

Then, face the left side and aim at the same spot as the picture. Once it opens, strike at the green targets inside as well.

Now, move to the other entrance on its right.

Use your grapple twice to get to the other side.

As you reach the next area, it will be a series of grappling. Go to this marked spot and climb the wall to the right until you see this spot. Again, use the grapple to cross.

After transferring to the other side, you will see a blue crystal on the floor. Use your axe and bounce it going to the target.

This will eventually open up a new path. Climb down, and keep heading straight until you reach this area.

The green object is the wretch nest.

Destroy it and take down the Grims trying to attack you. After the area is cleared, climb up to the next wall and drop to the left side.

You will see the writing on the wall. Read and proceed to head straight until you see the gap in the wall across you.

Make your way into this narrow area and keep moving forward.

After another series of grappling, you will end up in this location. Aim at the spot shown in the picture to open this up, and use your axe on the same spot to destroy the other ones in the surroundings.

Look to the right and then grapple your way into that area. Keep moving and find all the grappling sites and it will lead you to the location.

You will end up in this area. Kill all the enemies around you and climb the wall across you after you get to the upper platform.

Move a little further and drop down on the left side.

You will see this red object here. This is the Hafgufa’s binding. Use the axe to destroy this. Go back up, and move over to the next site.

Get on this area and aim for this spot to break it. Once it opens, throw your axe to it and it will ricochet to all the red objects that need to get destroyed in their area. After that, finish off all the remaining ones.

Open the Hive Cage

After destroying all the bindings, it is now time to open the hive cage. What you have to do now is go back to where you came from earlier.

On your way back, you will encounter the Bergsra. Kill it and claim the artifact inside the Legendary Chest.

Once you climb your way up here, you will notice these purple objects sticking to the walls. Use these crystals to bounce your axe and destroy the dense hive matter.

It will then reveal a grappling site. Use it to go to the higher sites.

Once you get up here, you will see this rotating artifact hanging. Aim at one of the side circles, and throw our axe to it twice to rotate it.

Now, you can also use this as the rebound for your axe.

Access the grappling sites, and look at this destructible wall. Use our weapon to jump over this and open up a passage.

Through this way, you can find the way out of the cave.

Ride on the sleigh again and turn left, and you will see the hive cage. Destroy it by spamming the buttons.
