With the last major update of Grounded, we can’t expect much balancing to be done any time in the near future. Because of that, the equipment currently in the game are likely going to remain in whatever state they’re in at the moment. In this tier list, we’ll be ranking the tier 1 weapons from best to worst to help you figure out what items are worth using.
Best Tier 1 Weapon Tier List
Before we begin, it should be noted that this will mainly include a lot of tools and even arrows, as these are pretty much the only tier 1 “weapons” in the game. These are only ranked based on their effectiveness in combat and not their other uses.
S Tier
- Spiky Sprig – The Spiky Sprig is one of the strongest melee weapons that you can use in the early game due to its powerful bleed effect. The only notable downside is that it is a two-handed weapon, so you can’t have an offhand item with you.
A Tier
- Pebblet Axe – Despite being a basic chopping tool that you use at the start of the game, it is surprisingly effective as a weapon in a pinch.
- Pebblet Spear – This weapon is cheap to make and is actually more valued because of the damage it can do when thrown. The main downside to this is that you will likely need to craft a lot of these spears if you want to use them as a throwing weapon.
- Arrow – The basic arrows are ranked highly mainly due to how ridiculously cheap they are to make when compared to all its other variants. Highly expendable and reliable against almost anything that a bow is good against.
B Tier
- Larva Blade – This slashing weapon can inflict poison whenever you land a hit on an enemy, though that effect deals minimal damage and does not stack. The weapon itself can deal a decent amount of damage, though.
- Bratburst – Although they are not easy to make, these explosives are great for crowd control as they deal a lot of damage in a large area. These are mainly used for other purposes, though, such as gathering certain resources.
- Gas Arrow – These special arrows have a few niche uses, such as when a fight calls for some area of effect damage. Just be careful not to step into the gas zone that it creates, as it can deal damage to you as well.
- Pollen Arrow – Just like the gas arrows, these are very situational as they are mainly only used to stun flying enemies. Pollen arrows can almost always stun a flying creature, but this is hardly necessary as most of them die immediately anyway.
C Tier
- Pebblet Dagger – This is really only used for underwater excursions, and you’ll want to replace it with something better as soon as possible. It isn’t worth using anywhere else, hence the ranking.
- Pebblet Hammer – It is way too slow compared to other Pebblet tools & weapons, making it an awful choice overall.
- Venom Arrow – As a tier 1 ammo, the poison that it inflicts is just too weak and it is not worth making these. You may as well stick with the regular arrows if you need to deal damage.
D Tier
- Acorn Shovel – This is included in the list solely because it is still considered a “weapon”, even though its main function is for harvesting resources. Don’t bother using it as a weapon.
- Sprig Bow – It is the weakest ranged weapon in the game, and while you’re stuck with it for some time at the start, consider upgrading as soon as you can if you like to shoot stuff.
- Lure Arrow – All these do is attract enemies, which seems like a huge waste if you could have just fired an arrow at them to begin with. The general consensus is that these are largely useless, and you should simply avoid making them.
And that concludes this tier list for all the very early game tools and weapons that you’ll be able to use in the game. While you’re here, check out our tier list of all the Tier 1 armor in Grounded as well, to see what gear you can pair these weapons up with.
