Are you ready to face one of the toughest bosses in Heaven Stand, Roland, also known as the Black Silence? Whether you’re new to the fight or looking to refine your strategy, this guide has everything you need to successfully take him down. From understanding his attack patterns and vulnerabilities to mastering character combos and understanding his card system, I’ll cover it all.
How To Get Roland & Showcase (Black Silence)
In order to get Roland, you’ll have to beat him—Heads up though, Roland is like an Elder Ring boss, very hard to defeat. First, wait for the Invitation Card to appear. It spawns every 30 minutes with a 30% chance of appearing. Once the card appears, it will prompt you to go to Keter. However, the card disappears after 25 seconds if not accepted. Upon accepting, you’ll need to wait 25 seconds before your character is teleported to Keter for the fight with Roland.
If fewer than 10 players are in the server, the card will match the number of players. If 10 or more are present, only 10 will be selected for the battle.
Defeating Roland To Obtain His Spec
Avoid using Creeper for this boss fight. As you’ll see in my gameplay, it’s ineffective, and you’ll just waste time. To make it easier, focus on breaking Roland’s shield (the yellow bar). Once broken, it will be much easier to defeat him.
Good News: Roland was nerfed a few hours after the update. Before the nerf, the fight was a nightmare. Now, when the Stagger Bar hits zero, Roland will be stunned for 5 seconds, and his cooldowns increase from 3 to 6 seconds.
The first 1,000 damage is easy and happens quickly, but once Angelica appears, the battle becomes much harder. To save time, I suggest teaming up with friends.
When you inflict 1,000 damage, Roland summons Angelica. This is the hardest part. It took me a while to break Angelica’s shield, but once I did, the fight became easier.
NOTE: Defeat Angelica first. Once she’s defeated, you’ll be teleported to another location for the final challenge.
After defeating Roland, he’ll drop the Book of the Black Silence, and you’ll be teleported back to the main map. Check your inventory for the item. Select it, then click the blue-haired icon in the top left corner of the screen to burn Roland’s book. If you’re lucky, you’ll get the Black Silence Page with a 15% chance. Once you have the page, use it to unlock Roland in your inventory.
Additional Tips & Info to Defeat Roland
- Attack Timing:
- Roland can only be attacked when he has a yellow aura and is walking normally. Keep an eye on where Roland last teleported to, approach that spot, and dodge all his attacks until he teleports again, making him vulnerable.
- Character Recommendations:
- Hakari is highly recommended for this fight. His E and J abilities are effective at lowering Roland’s shield quickly. To avoid Roland’s attacks, run in circles. When you see a yellow paper flash, jump him with E + C/R/J. Use J whenever Roland misses his combo for invincibility frames (iframes).
- Against Angelica, engage her as soon as possible, as she’s the more dangerous target in the later phase.
- Extra Damage Opportunities:
- If you die but Roland is still in his vulnerable form, quickly use X or G to deal a bit more damage. You can also use T to run around and avoid his combo while waiting for an opportunity.
- Cooldown and Vulnerability:
- Roland’s teleportation signals when he goes on cooldown, and that’s the only time you can deal damage. All his moves grant him iframes, making soloing him quite difficult. Hakari and Gojo are best suited for solo play due to their consistent damage and teleport abilities. However, don’t expect to use large damage moves or domain expansions effectively when soloing.
- Staggering Roland:
- Keep Roland near your spawn point and try to stagger him whenever possible. If you’re close to dying, consider resetting your character to prevent Roland’s emotion level from rising, which limits the number of moves he can use.
- Phase 3 Strategy (Angelica):
- In the final phase, focus on staggering Angelica as much as possible. The strategy here is the same: keep Roland near your spawn, stagger him when possible, and focus on Angelica.
- Gojo’s Domain:
- Gojo’s domain is a strong counter to Roland, as it disables his iframes for 30 seconds. During this time, Roland is unable to attack, making him much easier to deal damage to.
- You can also use characters like Genos with combos such as Flamewave Cannon > Blitz Shot > Reset > Repeat to chip away at Roland’s health.
- If using Sukuna, his H move can potentially deal damage to Roland even before he teleports, exploiting moments when Roland lacks I Frames.
Roland Showcase & Understanding Roland’s Light System
To use Roland’s ability, you’ll just have to press E to pick a card and E again to use the move. You can pick multiple cards to chain several moves together. The yellow boxes in the corner while using Roland represent his “Light” resource. Each card move consumes a certain amount of Light based on its cost. Managing Light effectively will allow you to chain powerful combos and use moves like Furioso for massive damage.
- Roland’s card system is simple: the higher the card’s number, the more Light (yellow bar on the bottom right) it consumes. By using low-cost cards and saving up Light, you can eventually use stronger moves like Furioso.
- For example, if you use a card that costs 1 Light and have 2 remaining, you can either use another card or save up for a higher-cost move like Furioso.
