Hogwarts Legacy’s open world has a dozen of challenges for players to tackle, such as Merlin’s Trials which are introduced as part of the game’s story.
Solving the puzzles presented by these trials rewards you with a variety of unique loot and counts toward overall completion.
In this guide, we’ll help you solve the Merlin Trial at San Bakar’s Tower.
How to Solve San Bakar’s Tower Merlin Trial

The San’s Bakar Tower Merlin Trial is found in the North Ford Bog region on the northern end of the game’s world map. If you have trouble finding it, refer to the map above.
As with every Merlin’s Trial, you’ll need to approach the circular platform in the area. Use Mallosweet on the platform to start the trial.
The puzzle for this trial is a Stone Cube Pillars puzzle.
Source: WoW Quests
The basis of this puzzle is that you have to complete 3 pillars. The lower half of the pillar shows a symbol that can’t be changed while the upper half has a Stone Cube you must rotate with Flipendo.
Hitting the Stone Cube with Flipendo will roll it vertically. You have to hit it from multiple sides until you make the symbols match with the bottom half. They must be an exact match.
Now, let’s go over each one of the Stone Cubes and the solution to each pillar. We’ll be using the 4 cardinal directions to help determine which side to hit. Refer to the compass on your minimap.
Stone Cube Pillar #1
The first Stone Cube Pillar is directly east of the Merlin Trial platform.

Hit the upper Stone Cube from the southeast, rotating it until it matches the square symbol on the bottom of the pillar. The rotation won’t match just yet, but the symbol has to be the same.
Now, face the pillar’s southwestern side. The bottom of the pillar shows a drawing of a harp. Flip the upper Stone Cube with Flipendo until it changes to a harp.
This should solve this first pillar.
Stone Cube Pillar #2
The second Stone Cube Pillar is southwest of the first pillar, near some tombs.
Face the western face of the pillar. The symbol on the bottom half should look like an eight.
Flip the upper Stone Cube once and it should show the eight-looking symbol, but it will be sideways for now.
Move onto the northern face of the stone pillar. The bottom symbol looks like a sphere of some sort. Flip the upper Stone Cube once again and it should match the bottom symbol, completing this pillar.
Stone Cube Pillar #3
The last Stone Cube Pillar is directly northwest of the previous pillar close to the Merlin Trial platform.
The southern side of this pillar should be showing a square symbol on both the upper and bottom halves of the pillar. You don’t need to rotate it from this side, so don’t use Flipendo yet.
Instead, face the western side of the pillar. This side has a harp on the lower half.
Simply cast Flipendo twice on the upper Stone Cube and the symbols will match, completing this Merlin Trial.
