Horizon Zero Dawn introduced a lot of mechanics that carried over to Horizon Forbidden West. One of those mechanics is overriding machines. Overriding machines is the best mechanic, as the machines become friends with Aloy. Overriding Chargers specifically allows Aloy to ride them to travel faster to locations.
Override a Charger | Horizon Forbidden West
There are two ways to override Chargers in Horizon Forbidden West. The first way is to knock them down on the ground with a heavy attack, leaving them dazed. One they’re on the ground, hold Triangle to initiate override, which will take just a couple of seconds.
Be careful though, as this leaves you open to attacks by other machines.
The other way, which is the preferable way to avoid getting knocked around by mechanical bulls, is to override them with stealth.
To do this, approach the Charger from behind. If you can hide in tall grass, even better to use those to your advantage.
Once you’re close enough to a charger, just hold Triangle again and the override process will start. This will attract less attention to you as you’re being quiet.
