Recently a new game just release from early access and it’s Ultimate Admiral Dreadnoughts, a game that covers a very niche and honestly underdeveloped part of gaming. The lets you design your own ships and goes into great detail on what the different components of those ships are, from the number of bulkheads to the type of propellant your ammunition uses. All of them of course has numbers you can see and compare to. When it comes to making ships there’s different types and in this guide we’ll show you how to make a Destroyer in the game.

Ultimate Admiral Dreadnoughts: How To Build Destroyers

If you have no idea on what ship types are, the destroyer might sound threatening, which is quite funny since it’s actually one of the smaller types of ships. Out of the most common ship types out there the destroyer is the smallest, if you don’t count patrol boats and coastal defense ships which are even smaller. The use of destroyer differs from country to country but usually they’re there to escort bigger ships, lay mines, clear mines and hunt for submarines.

Building a Destroyer

To start building a destroyer you first need to pick a destroyer hull, it should be titled as “Destroyer” and depending on the year you’re at on which kind of destroyer you can get. If by some reason it doesn’t say Destroyer then go look for the hull that has the “DD” on the upper right, which means destroyer.

The first thing you’ll need to do is to place the Main and Secondary Tower, once you’ve placed them remember to place the funnels and make sure it’s enough for your engines. You should know it is if the “Engine Efficiency” percentage is at 100% or higher.

Then you can go to the weapons, I’m with the school of thought that the power of a destroyer is in its torpedoes, so as you see above I’ve placed a lot of them. You can also place main guns on them if you’d like. You can also make it that your destroyers have good guns instead of torpedoes and place a lot of them, just remember to make sure they have good reloading and range finding capabilities!

Tips in Design

A destroyer is all about speed, maneuverability and torpedoes. Remember to set your speed to the desired amount and make sure it’s at least faster than your battleships. A slow destroyer is a dead destroyer so also remember to get auxiliary engines if possible.

Don’t worry about armor, there’s no such thing as an armored destroyer, if you wanted that then you should have just went for a cruiser!

Due to the maximum size of the weapons for Destroyers, AP shells are usually not as effective as just getting HE shells and making the heavy shells. So make sure to load the maximum HE shells.

Remember that Engine efficiency is important for the destroyer to maintain their speed and their range.

At certain time periods in the campaign you can make specialized destroyers that can clear or deploy mines. Armament isn’t usually the main thing for these destroyers since their main job is to place or clear mines. Just make sure they’re set to “Defend” or else they’ll be pulled for big battles.

You can also go to the multi-purpose route with destroyers instead and make a destroyer that can deploy and clear mines, hunt submarines and do surface attacks, though they can be a bit expensive.

Congratulations you now know how to design destroyers in Ultimate Admiral Dreadnoughts. I highly suggest you try out your designs first in custom battles before using them for the campaign, and make sure they’re affordable!
