It’s always nice to go through the game again to get a different ending rather than just easily loading a save, but multiple playthroughs might end up with you losing interest altogether. You can save yourself from that plight by keeping things fresh with mods!

The devs won’t always have everything you’re looking for, when that time comes it’s usually the local community that steps up to fill in the gaps. However, not everything can be made clear to you as well as the modders are only there to add content to the game, but that’s where we come in next!

Modding Guide: How To Install Mods – Sons of the Forest

In this guide, we’re going to try and keep things simple by using the Thunderstore Mod Manager.

There are some mods even in the Nexus that require you to use this to save yourself the trouble of having to cut, copy, or paste delicate files around your root folder. The last thing you want is to ruin your game entirely by making simple mistakes!

When the installation finishes it will bring you to the main interface, here you can search for your game to initialize the setup.

Once you have chosen your game, click on “Select profile” then select “get mods”.

To make sure that your mods will work you will need to install the BepInExPack mod, it’s a general-purpose framework mod. None of your other mods will work if this isn’t installed properly!

Next, you will need to change the directory of the game, you can do that by going to your settings tab.

A window will pop up and all that’s required from you is to click on the “SonsOfTheForest.exe” file and hit “open”.

Once you finish setting up your root folder, click on “Modded” and follow the on-screen instructions while you wait for the mod manager to open your game.

Load a save file and let the game run for a while and proceed to close it.

Now head back to the mod manager and select “Edit config” to open a dropdown menu to further configure your files. This eliminates the need of having to go into individual folders to change the values within the files yourself.

See? Modding made easy. So all you have to do next is just get more mods and simply modify them to your liking by accessing the same tab.

If you’re in Multiplayer make sure to tell your friends to install the same mods that you currently have for a hassle-free experience!

Here we have Alexis, he's been gaming ever since the second Famicom came out. Which is probably the reason why he goes back to platformers every now and then. Somewhere down the line he started getting more and more fascinated about looking at maps change colors for three to eight hours straight. If he's not out strategizing and beating the life out of his space bar in that order there's a good chance you can find him playing an FPS or talking someone's ear out about how game balance gets in the way of realism. You can tell that he really likes getting the full experience of whatever he gets his hands on.
