Elden Ring Nighreign gives you a variety of classes to choose when going into battle. Each of these classes, known as Nightfarers, have unique skills that can make your experience completely different. You can choose whichever class you want depending on your playstyle preference. However, there are certain Nightfarers that are not immediately available. One such class is the Duchess – suitable for players who like agile and dex builds. If you want to play her, we got you covered. We’ll show you how you can unlock her in this guide. Let’s dive in!

How to Unlock Duchess

Below is a breakdown of all the steps you need to follow to unlock the Duchess in Elden Ring Nightreign:

  • Obtain the Old Pocketwatch
  • Go to the Priestess in the Roundtable Hold
  • Show her the Old Pocketwatch and activate the cutscene
  • Unlock Duchess as a playable character after the cutscene.

Unlocking the Duchess is also a crucial step in unlocking the other secret class, the Revenant. If you want to unlock her too, check out our how to unlock revenant guide.

Obtain Old Pocketwatch

To get your hands on the Old Pocketwatch, the first thing you need to do is start the Tricephalos Expedition. This is because you face Gladius Beast Of Night as the Nightlord at the end of this expedition.

So, you will need to survive all the days until you meet this boss. After that, you must defeat this boss. Defeating Gladius for the first time gives you a guaranteed chance to get the Old Pocketwatch.

However, if you’re finding this boss too hard, not to worry. You can still get the Old Pocketwatch as a random reward even if you die in the expedition.

The Old Pocketwatch serves as a Relic that can be used to increase your dexterity.

Talk To Priestess

When you get your hands on the Old Pocketwatch, return to the Roundtable Hold. Here, you must go the Priestess NPC who can be found standing near the table.

Talk to her and select the ‘Show her the old pocketwatch‘ option. Next, select the ‘Give it to her‘ option. Doing so will start a cutscene where the Priestess reveals herself to be the Duchess.

Unlock Duchess

After the cutscene with the big reveal, you will have unlocked the Duchess and will be able to use her as a Nightfarer for future expeditions!

The Duchess offers the following skills in Elden Ring Nightreign:

  • Magnificent Poise (Passive)
    • Allows the Duchess to dodge optimally and repeatedly
    • This means that there is no cooldown between dodges
  • Restage
    • Allows the Duchess to reapply all damage an enemy or boss has sustained in the last few seconds a second time
    • Useful if your team has triggered the Bleed effect
  • Finale (Ultimate)
    • Allows the Duchess and nearby teammates to turn invisible for 10 seconds
    • Enemies and bosses cannot attack invisible teammates
    • Useful for regrouping, reviving teammates, or escaping.

As you can see, the Duchess is an agile Nightfarer that can move around and attack incredibly quickly. She prefers to use weapons like Daggers, which suit her dex style of play.

However, she does have low HP, especially when you unlock her. So, you will want to level her up for use relics to get that HP higher.

That’s everything you need to know about how to unlock the Duchess in Elden Ring Nightreign. Having the Duchess unlocked is incredibly useful as her agile style of play is one that a lot of players prefer. If you’re struggling with Gladius, just keep trying and eventually you should get the Old Pocketwatch as a reward. Remember, Elden Ring Nightreign is all about failing and trying again!
