Last Epoch: Complete Crafting Guide

Crafting can be very confusing in a lot of games. Some games have very complicated crafting systems that many players get turned away from because it’s, well, complicated. This is such a shame because many of the good weapons and gear in games can be found in crafting, so people are missing out on getting the best items because they don’t do the crafting.

In Last Epoch, the crafting is easy to understand compared to other games, but there are some nuances and tricks that make it a little difficult toward the end.

Complete Crafting Guide – Last Epoch

When you want to craft an item, you will see a little thing called Forging Potential. What Forging Potential means is the number of times you can craft the item.

However, you can either be lucky or unlucky, because the Forging Potential number can go down to a random number. It may say 30, but if you craft the item, then the Forging Potential might go down to 21 if you’re unlucky.

So when you want to craft an item, get an item that has a higher Forging Potential. Avoid crafting with items that have low Forging Potential as that is merely just a waste of your resources. The best items to craft with are usually those of higher rarity, so you will need to find items of higher rarity.

Though you may not find a lot when you are just starting the game, there are some pretty rare drops.

When you are upgrading something, you will need to use Glyphs.

These items are essential when crafting, and you can find four different Glyphs with different uses:

  • Glyph of Hope – Modifies the outcome of a craft, granting it a 25% chance to have no Forging Potential cost.
  • Glyph of Chaos – Randomly changes the upgraded Affix to a different one that can spawn on that item type. It cannot change a Prefix into a Suffix or vice versa.
  • Glyph of Order – Prevents the roll of an Affix within its range changing when it is upgraded.
  • Glyph of Despair – Has a chance to seal an Affix instead of upgrading it. The sealed Affix is moved to its own slot, leaving its old slot open for you to add a new Affix.

You will find yourself using Glyph of Hope a lot of items in order to prevent the Forging Potential from going down.

Glyph of Despair is mostly used during the endgame and is very much useful when you want to make sure a weapon or gear you have with a great Affix remains that way.

Glyph of Chaos is great for when you want to change the Affix of a weapon that has no use for the weapon.

Glyph of Order is generally avoided, but it has some uses. It’s avoided because it has a chance of using more Forging Potential than normal.

When you have chosen your Glyph, you will want to select the modifier, that you will want to add. This can only be done on weapons and gears that have open mod slots. If the item you are crafting does not have one, then you cannot add a modifier.

If you are not sure what modifier is available to be added to your weapon or gear, you can click on the plus symbol to check the available modifiers that can be added.

Please bear in mind that this also affects your Forging Potential a lot. You will find yourself looking at your Forging Potential going down from 30 to 29 to a whopping 15 to 12 then another whopping 3. Modifiers take a huge chunk out of Forging Potential, so try not to go overboard with it.

Runes are another thing you should watch out for when crafting.

Here are the Runes you can find in the game and what they do:

  • Rune of Shattering – Destroys an item, creating a random number of Affix shards containing its powers.
  • Rune of Refinement – Rerolls the values of all Affixes on an item within their tiers.
  • Rune of Removal – Removes a random Affix on an item, returning a number of shards equal to its tier.
  • Rune of Discovery – Adds random tier 1 Affixes to all empty affix slots on an item. Has an increased chance of rolling rarer Affixes. Does not cost Forging Potential, but cannot be applied to items with zero Forging Potential.
  • Rune of Shaping – Rerolls all implicits on an item.
  • Rune of Ascendance – Changes the item into a unique or set item of the same item type. Using this on a Silver Ring could turn it into any unique ring, including ones that are not silver rings. However, it cannot turn into a helmet. None of the other properties of the base item are retained.
  • Rune of Creation – Duplicates the item, but reduces the Forging Potential of both the original and the copy to 0.
