Mashle Academy has RPG mechanics that require you to level up your character and gain XP in order to then customize the way you want your character to play in the game.
However, leveling up your character takes a while, and you will no doubt get bored of trying to get your levels up at a slow rate.

Stats & Builds
In the game, you will have 5 different stats you can invest your points into. These are Muscles, Magic Power, Durability, Agility, and Stamina. These stats change the way your character is played.
If you invest in Muscles, you will increase the damage of your physical attacks (without any weapons), same will happen if you invest in Magic Power, but it instead boosts the damage of your magical abilities.
Simply put, a stat will perform better if you invest more points into it, which is how you do builds in the game. Weapons like swords and wands all have their own stats, but they rely on how strong your current stats are in the game.
If you use a weapon like a wand, you will need to have a high Magic Power to deal damage. And if you use none and prefer to use your fists, then it relies on your Muscles stats.

Skills
Stats also determine what skills you get. Right next to the stats bar, you will find your skills for Magic, Weapon, and Basic.
Depending on how much you invest in one stat, you will unlock certain skills that can be used in battle. If you invest 100 into Muscles, you will unlock the Tatsumaki Kick. If you invest 50 in Magic Power, you will get Mana Shield.
