Like any other knockout game, winning in MultiVersus depends on your skills to move around the battlefield efficiently. Since the game just came out, players note that it’s changed drastically from the original experience in beta. This being said, we’ve compiled a movement guide here that walks you through how to improve movement and explains the new gameplay mechanics in the game.

Improve Movement and Gameplay Mechanics

The moves I will cover here will range from MultiVerse must-knows to more specialized mobility combinations to help you out of sticky situations or as set-ups for certain maneuvers. Let’s talk about them below.

This is a still from the game.

Boost Jumps

Boost jumping is a basic starter for making some distance toward or away from your enemy. Do this by rolling and jumping simultaneously. You can do this while you’re already in the air for more aerial mobility.

Boost Jumps give you a big boost of speed as you move. The con of this move is that it takes up half of your meter. This means that doing this twice in a row will completely drain it, leaving you vulnerable.

When your opponent does a move that leaves them open for attack, you can boost jump to quickly close distance and land your flurry of attacks. The beauty of boost jumping is its speed and distance in a fight.

This is Jason Vorhees fighting Arya.

Pacing

The way neutrals work in this game is you want to pace to feel out your opponent. If you go back and forth repetitively, you’ll be predictable and prone to attack so get closer and further in increments to bait your opponent into hitting you.

Successfully baiting your opponent to attack is a great way to leave them open for a countermove. Some characters will have longer periods of recovery from a normal attack, which leaves you open to strike back and seamlessly blend into a combo.

At the cost of your bar, you can also blend the Boost Jump into your pacing to change the momentum of your rhythm. You can single jump, fall, not hit the ground, and boost jump away or toward your opponent. The possibilities are endless!

Knowing when to land a blow comes with practice, so get a feel for the game and keep practicing to find the right windows to strike.

Platforms

Platforms are also a great way to get a boost of speed. Rolling off a platform gives a speed boost in the direction you’re moving in; additionally, you can also dodge through a platform for quick maneuvering away from the enemy. More on falling through platforms, you don’t have to hold A, instead you can just air dodge through it.

Instant Air Dash

This is a special move that is great for combo extensions and approach extensions. The Instant Air Dash may look like an aerial, but the magic is that you don’t leave the ground. You can do this in any direction for an edge guard and you don’t want to jump into position to hit the opponent.

Do this by holding your control stick diagonally upward. You’ll know you’re doing this right if you’re still moving forward. After this, press the dodge button and input any directional attack you want. So in short:

  1. Roll
  2. Dodge
  3. Attack

Note that this will burn half your meter, but it’s a great way to throw someone off the edge of the battlefield. The gist is that constantly weaving and spotting windows to strike is the key to landing blows in MultiVersus. Being aggressive is a great way to play, but movement is how you control the match so the better you are at the game, the better your movement will be.

And that’s it! Improving your movement and understanding the gameplay mechanics behind maneuvers is a great way to get a leg up as this season of MultiVersus starts to amp up. There are new patches on the way, so stay tuned for those as well!
