MultiVersus just got relaunched and is finally out for real now, and new players are flooding in checking out this new free to play platform fighter. In this guide, we’ll try to give you a few tips on how to play as Wonder Woman, the super amazon from DC who is considered as a fairly popular tank in this game.

How to Play Wonder Woman Guide (Tips & Combos)

If you have seen our MultiVersus 1v1 character tier list, then you know that Wonder Woman is seen as a pretty good pick at the moment, even if it is a bit too early to be determining the relaunch’s meta.

In a nutshell, Wonder Woman falls under the tank category, making her more of a defensive character who focuses on short range combat. Although she has the ability to block projectiles, she has, as expected, limited long range capabilities.

Because of the deceptively complex nature of fighting games, we’ll try to keep this simple and easy to digest. Before we get to some example combos, let’s quickly go over her entire move set.

Wonder Woman’s Move Set

Ground Moves

  • Neutral Attack – Sword of Ares
    • A basic attack that can be charged up or cancelled early for less damage. It can knock back enemies a fair distance away.
  • Side Attack – Amazon Combo
    • A basic attack string that can be used to transition to other moves as well. The last hit of this string will always slightly shove an opponent away.
  • Up Attack – Shield Bash
    • An upward shield bash that knocks an opponent into the air. Can also be charged for more damage and a higher knock up.
  • Side Attack (Hold) – For Themyscira!
    • Dashing shield bash attack that knocks back any enemies hit by it.
  • Down Attack – Amazon Shout
    • Wonder Woman slams her bracers together to create an energy blast that will also give her and nearby allies a brief armor buff. Can be charged for a larger area of effect.

Special Moves

  • Neutral Special – Lasso of Truth
    • A somewhat long ranged attack with the Lasso of Truth that can pull enemies or allies towards her. This ability has a fairly long cooldown.
    • This can be used as a gap closer, and a certain perk (Grapple of Hermes) can be used to turn this move into a grapple that pulls you to the enemy instead.
    • With the Whip of Hephaestus perk, this can be used as a plain ranged attack that adds a knockback to the tip of her lasso. This removes the pulling effect and can be hard to hit, however.
  • Side Special – Warrior’s Charge
    • A dashing shield bash that can also block projectiles. The shield can then be held up to block even more projectiles while also granting Armor to allies that you pass through during the dash.
  • Up Special – Flying Warrior
    • Similar to Warrior’s Charge, except it is a shield bash that goes upwards. When held, Wonder Woman will briefly hover in the air, and her shield can be used as a platform for allies.
    • This move can be used twice while in the air, making it a decent juggling tool.
  • Down SpecialDefense of the Gods
    • Cleanses debuffs and grants a Shield buff that prevents knockback and damage for the next hit. When an ally is within range, she will also dash towards them and grant them the same effects.

Aerial Moves

  • Aerial Neutral – Whirling Sword
    • A very quick spinning attack that can also break Armor.
  • Aerial Up – Rising Kick
    • An overhead kick that has a small hit box at the end that will cause the move to deal more damage.
  • Aerial Down – Falling Spear
    • A quick and basic downward stabbing attack that has a very particular active uptime, making it hard to hit until you get used to the timing.
    • Even if you miss the damaging part of the attack itself, this move can be used to quickly cancel a jump and fall to the ground faster than usual.
  • Aerial Side – Flying Slash
    • A quick downwards slashing attack.

Some Example Combos to Try Out

Despite the fairly small move sets in this game, there is a lot of room for personal expression when it comes to perk setups and combos. If you are looking for some basic strings to start out with, here are a few recommendations:

  • Basic String: Side Attack -> Side Attack -> Side Attack* – This is her basic attack string and it can be cancelled after the second hit to execute *other moves (e.g. Up Special or uncharged Down Attack).
  • Side String into Neutral (2x): Side Attack -> Side Attack -> Neutral Attack -> Dodge Roll -> Repeat Side/Side/Neutral String
  • Lasso into Whirling Sword: Neutral Special -> Jump -> Aerial Neutral (immediately after jumping)
  • Flying Slash into Neutral Ground: Aerial Side -> Side Attack -> Neutral Attack – Has some decent knockback potential if successfully landed.

Of course, there are many other potential combos to experiment with, and there are very likely to be more effective maneuvers depending on your playstyle and whether you are in a team mode or 1v1.

A Few Tips to Keep in Mind

Despite being a tank with pretty limited combo options, Wonder Woman can deal a decent chunk of damage and can apply a lot of pressure as a result of this.

Her Whirling Sword attack is very quick compared to her other moves, and the added bonus of being able to break armor is a huge plus. This is a decent poking tool that you can easily abuse.

Flying Slash is another good move for applying pressure, but it will require a bit of practice as it can be easy to overshoot this attack and completely miss your opponent.

Once you get more used to the different matchups in the game, you’ll also be able to learn when you can utilize her shield and armor moves to completely avoid taking damage from certain attacks. Learn the other characters’ ranged attacks and you can pull off some well-timed blocks.

On that note, blocking with the shield will increase her meter. Because of this, learning how to successfully block hits will also increase your kill potential as your Amazon Shout will now deal more damage.

Choosing Your Perks

Although most of your perk choices will mainly be down to personal preference and game mode, it’s worth noting that some perks are particularly good for her regardless of your playstyle.

One example of a decent choice is Triple Jump, as Wonder Woman’s kit lends itself greatly to aerial mobility and juggling. Coffeezilla is a good option for faster ability cooldowns as well.

Lumpy Space Punch is good too, since it will boost your effectiveness with aerial attacks. This is the go-to offensive perk if you plan on spamming those aerials, which will likely be the case.

Whip of Hephaestus can be pretty good at 1v1 fights as it will give you an extra zoning tool that also has the potential to finish your opponent off. You’ll need to practice this one a bit, though, as it has a very particular hit box.

On the other hand, Grapple of Hermes is a better option if you need a little more help with mobility/gap closing. It can be useful for edge guarding as well, if you can land the lasso.
