Palia is an MMORPG game that will surely keep you hooked the moment you start playing the game. However, like most MMO’s out in the gaming world, it’s hard to understand how things work when you start a game.

What do you do? How do you progress? How can you earn money or get better equipment? Is there a better way to get better weapons?

Luckily, guides are a thing since gaming started, and this guide will give you the best tips and tricks for those who are just starting Palia.

Best Tips & Tricks For Beginners

You Can Customize Your Character After the Initial Customization Screen

When starting a game that lets you customize your characters, you will be first taken to a character customization screen.

There, you will be able to pick out what hair you want, what clothes you want, what accessories you want, and more. This is where people get a good look at their character before starting the game.

But what if when you start the game, you realize something about your character feels off and you want to change it?

Other games don’t offer you changes past the initial customization screen, only letting you customize the clothing and accessories.

But for Palia, you can customize your characters features at any time you want, free of charge.

To customize your character later in the game, you will have two options. The first option is by using the Wardrobe in your house.

There, you can not only change clothes, but your characters features as well to better suit your wants.

The second option is by going to Jel’s clothing shop in the village in Kilima Valley. There, you can also do the same. But I recommend getting the Wardrobe in your home as it is much easier to access.

Game Time Happens in Real Time

Most games nowadays rarely have a feature that allows the game to pass in real time.

If you don’t know what that means, it means that the time in the game (usually depending on what server you are in) coincides with the time in real life.

So, if you login to a game at 11:44 A.M., then the time in the game will also say 11:44 A.M.

In the case of Palia, the time of the game coincides with the time in real life. But as stated before, it depends on the server.

Some servers follow the time in Japan, others in Brazil, some in Europe, and others in America. To have a better gameplay experience, it is better to find a server that matches your timezone.

However, you don’t need to restrict yourself to one timezone if you prefer playing on another server. You are free to select other servers with different timezones if you prefer playing at night or day.

Sharpen Up Your Skills

In Palia, you will be able to do certain things like fishing and cooking. What you don’t know is that those actions have something to do with your Skills.

Those skills all have levels that determine how good you are at the skill. The higher the skill, the better the rewards and results you get when performing those Skills.

Here are the 8 skills you have in the game:

  • Fishing
  • Cooking
  • Gardening
  • Mining
  • Hunting
  • Bug Catching
  • Foraging
  • Furniture Making

As you progress through the game, you will unlock each skill and you will be able to raise their levels by performing each skill.

Naturally, you will have a skill that you will want to spend most of your time on. That is completely fine, but it is important to also focus your efforts in raising the levels of other skills as well.

Such skills like Furniture Making and Cooking are actually very useful as you spend more time in the game, so be sure to invest some time in other skills when you have the chance.

The Focus Bar is Essentially Your Stamina Bar For Your Skill

While playing the game and doing skill-based activities like Hunting, Gardening, or Mining, you will notice that the bar on the top left slowly gets depleted.

Now, this isn’t a stamina bar. It is your Focus bar. When it is empty, it won’t mean that you won’t be able to do any more actions until you can refill it.

It just means that you won’t be able to level up your skills.

With your Focus bar depleted, skill-based activities that you do will not get you any kind of XP from them, which in turn prevents you from leveling up a certain skill.

However, it is easy to refill your Focus bar. You can simply eat food that you have in your inventory to get it back up to full. But you can also increase the Focus bar capacity by spending Renown.

Renown Gets You Around

Speaking of Renown, what is it? Well, Renown is what you get when you do things like leveling up your skills, develop friendships with villagers, completing quests, or completing accomplishments.

Renown is what you usually use to increase your Focus bar or get more bonuses out of them.

Bear in mind though that Renown caps at 1000. So, if you were to reach 1000 and not spend them, then any Renown you earn will be forever lost as the game has it capped at 1000.

In order to spend your Renown, you will need to go to the following areas:

  • Phoenix Shrine at Phoenix Falls – Spend Renown here to increase your Focus bonus when doing skill-based activities to level up faster.
  • Dragon Shrine at Maji’s Hollow – Spend Renown here to increase your maximum Focus, allowing you to have more Focus.

Keep Your Tools in Top Condition

As you go around the world of Palia, you will be using tools to do certain actions. Pickaxe for Mining, Fishing Rod for Fishing, Bow for Hunting etc.

With that in mind, these tools will also lose efficiency when used too much. You can tell how bad it is by looking at your tools and looking at the ring around them. This is essentially your tool’s health bar.

The tools in your inventory also have health in Palia.

Luckily, it’s quite easy to get them fixed. All you have to do is to find a Repair Station and fix all your tools before they break.

You can do this either with your own Repair Station or at the village blacksmith’s Repair Station. I suggest doing it at the blacksmith’s as it only costs a few gold to repair them.

Bigger Backpack, Bigger Inventory

When starting the game, you will no doubt go wild and start collecting anything and everything that isn’t nailed down to the ground in hopes that it can be worth something and sell them.

It’s a good way to earn money, but it’s also a good way to fill up your inventory space quicker. Eventually, you will have a full inventory filled with things that you will have to go to a shop to sell.

It’s recommended to focus on saving money to upgrade your backpack as much as you can.

Your inventory is important, so having a ton of room in your inventory early in the game will save you from the annoyances of having a full inventory and not being able to pick up a rare item that’s worth a ton of gold.
