The global release for Persona 5: The Phantom X is finally out and Persona fans are rushing to play it. While it does feature the familiar turn based combat systems, there are quite a bunch of new systems that fans may not have experienced. The gacha system is key part of the game as it allows you to get units that you need for battles. However, you may be confused as to how it works or how you can take advantage of it as a free to play player. In this guide, we’ll explain the entire system so you know exactly how to take advantage of it. With that said, let’s dive in!

Gacha System Explained

There are a bunch of banners and an Exchange shop that you can access as part of the Gacha System. We’ll go over important banners so you know exactly how the pity system works and how you can take advantage of it.

If you’re just starting out, we also recommend our complete starter guide as it goes over all the main systems you need to know.

Gacha System Overview

Quite a few fans may not even know what exactly the gacha system is. Through the gacha system, you can either use money that you grind for or paid currency for a chance to get units. In essence, you are gambling your money for a chance to get units.

However, unlike most gacha games, Persona 5X is very F2P friendly. This is because there is no PvP and besides some banners, you can get most units in the game by playing. You also get access to a lot of summons.

In total, there are four distinct banner types. You can use these to get both Characters and Weapons.

While each banner has different drops, you can get the following from their banner types:

  • 5 Star Characters/Weapons
  • 4 Star Characters/Weapons
  • 3 Star Weapons
  • Low Tier 2 Star Personas

To actually go to the Summons menu, you need to select the icon shown in the menu below.

Beginner Banner

The beginner banner is the first banner that will be available to you as a new player. It uses Future Fates as the main currency. While you can use your Meta Shards, we recommend not doing so for this banner.

Here is an overview of the beginner banner in Persona 5: The Phantom X:

  • 8 Future Fates needed to do a 10-pull which is a discounted rate only for this banner
  • After 50 pulls in this banner, you get a choice between three 5 star characters: Morgana, Ryuji Sakamoto and Ann Takamaki
  • You can still obtain 5 star characters before 50 pulls
  • Early 5 star character pulls will not affect the choice you get after 50 pulls

Rate Up Character Banner

The Rate-up Character Banner features a limited-time 5 star Character which is usually newly added to the game, alongside three 4 star Characters. In the other versions of the game, there are two selectable pity systems, known as the 110 and 80 Pity systems.

However, the 110 Pity system won’t be available in the Global Release. The breakdown of this pity system is as follows:

  • On global launch, the unit you can get is Joker
  • 0.8% base pull rate for 5 star Characters
  • Every 80 Pulls, you are guaranteed a 5 star unit
  • First 5 start unit has a 50% chance to be Joker, and a 50% chance to be a standard unit
  • The second five star unit has a guaranteed chance to be the featured banner (which would be Akihiko)
  • Every 10 pulls, you are guaranteed a 4 star unit.

While the 110 Pity System was arguably better, the developers might try to balance it out with more summons. In this way, you should be able to easily reach the 110 Pity within a month allowing you to get your desired units.

Rate Up Weapon Banner

As with the character banner, the Rate Up Weapon Banner will also only have one pity system for global launch.

Here is an overview of the rate up weapon banner in Persona 5: The Phantom X:

  • 0.8% base pull rate for 5 star Weapons
  • Every 70 pulls, you are guaranteed a 5 star weapon
  • 50% chance to obtain the rate-up 5 star weapon or 50% chance to get a permanent 5 star weapon.
  • The next pity will be guaranteed to give you rate up 5 star weapon

Permanent Banner

The Permanent Banner features all the Permanent Characters in the game. These are units that are not currently in the Rate Up Character Banner. Once a Rate Up Character Banner expires for a new unit, this unit typically gets added to the Permanent Banner.

Here is an overview of the permanent banner:

  • 0.8% base pull rate for 5 star units
  • Every 80 pulls, you are guaranteed a 5 start unit
  • After 300 cumulative Pulls, you will get a 5 star Permanent Character of your choice

Rerun Banners

Rerun Banners feature returning limited-time Rate-up 5 star Characters and Weapons. These banner tend to run longer than standard Rate-up banners, at least for other versions of the game.

This banner shares the pity count and the random 5 star Permanent Character count with the Rate Up banners. Pulling on Rerun Banners earns you Cognitive Afterimage.

Additionally, we also have Super Rerun Banners, which are similar to Rerun Banners but appear only during special occasions. These banners allow you to select up to three 5 star Characters to feature as Rate-up Characters.

You can think of them as Rerun banners with customizable Rate up options. Pulling on Super Rerun Banners also earns you Cognitive Afterimage.

Cognition Shop

The Cognition Shop works similarly to Exchange Shops in other gacha games.

As you pull on banners, you earn currency that can be used in the Cognition Shop. You get more currency when you pull a duplicate.

There are three types of currencies that you can get from summoning:

  • Cognitive Shard
    • Earned by pulling low tier 2 star Personas and 3 star Weapons.
  • Cognitive Gemstone
    • Earned by pulling 4 star and 5 star Characters and Weapons.
  • Cognitive Afterimage
    • Earned from pulling on a rerun banner.

You can use these currencies to get all sorts of rewards that will further help you with the gameplay loop.

That’s everything you need to know for the gacha system in Persona 5: The Phantom X. Hopefully, this has given you an idea of how to summon so that you can take advantage of the pity system for guaranteed rewards. While this may seem grindy, the systems in this game are overall quite friendly for free to play players!
