To obtain the Purple Pikmin Onion, you must unlock and complete the last chapter of the Trial of the Sage Leaf. However, the trial is only available after completing all of Olimar’s Shipwreck Tale objectives. Completing the Shipwreck Tale tasks comes after completing the Hero’s Hideaway‘s initial ending and locating Olimar. You can move on to playing the trial after finishing them all.
The final Story, The Purple Key, is the one you need to complete in order to obtain the Purple Pikmin Onion.
You will have to use Oatchi, Ice, and Purple Pikmin to assist you to pass through a maze that has a Waterwraith in it in order to obtain the Purple Onion. You will probably need Oatchi’s strength to be at its peak, which means he should be able to support the weight of 100 Pikmins unless you are adept in the Dandori technique.
However, even though finding the Purple Pikmin Onion seems easy, it is one of the hardest challenges to complete, as stated by the players. So we will give you a walkthrough of the story.
How to Complete Final Story: The Purple Key
Once you begin the chapter, the Sage Leaf will tell you that you and Oatchi need to work as a team. Turn right and you will see it standing there.
Once you take the Oatchi, the timer will start and you will need to complete everything in just five minutes. Go forward and to the left and collect the Purple Pikmin. You will need them to complete this chapter.
Then, you will see that there is a location blocked by five bars. You and your Pikmin can get through there but Oatchi needs to stay behind. Now you should find a way to get him through there as you need to collaborate with him to get the Purple Onion.
On your right, you will find a big Hydro Jelly. Destroying it will give you both Purple and Ice Pikmin. You will now have 100 Pikmin in total.
Keep following the path and you will see a giant red paper bag blocking your way. Put all of your Pikmin on top of it to weigh it down.
Go forward, collect the new Purple Pikmin, then proceed to the iced radiator and send your Ice Pikmins on top of it. While they are handling that, go to the left and walk through the little hole on your right. Now that you are back to the side where Oatchi was left, it can come with you.
Send your Purple Pikmin to the Purple Onion. If you have maxed out Oatchi’s skills, you can use that to carry the Purple Onion from now on. If not, your Purple Pikmin can keep carrying it. However, they will be much slower than Oatchi. While they are carrying it, you might want to take down the Waterwraith coming towards you. Defeat it by using your Pikmin.
If the Waterwraith is too troubling for you, you don’t need to wait to get to this point to get rid of it. Just defeat it at the beginning of the maze if you want to do it that way but try not to lose too much time as you need to do everything in five minutes.
After that use 50 Pikmin to weigh down the paper and flatten it once more. Keep following the path and you will see a Fiery Blowhog and Snowy Blowhog right in front of the gate you need to open. Go on and defeat the two Blowhogs on your way to open the gate.
If you are using Pikmin to carry the Purple Onion, send all your Pikmin to help to make them move faster. To do that, you need to get the ones you send on the radiator before. Get them and use them on the Purple Onion as well as the other ones, they will eventually get the onion to the ending point and the chapter will be completed.
