If you’re diving into Rune Slayer for the first time, you might be feeling a little overwhelmed. Don’t worry—I’ve got you covered. In this guide, I’ll go over everything you need to know to get started, from picking the right race and class to gearing up and leveling efficiently. Whether you’re here for some quick tips or a full breakdown, my guide will set you on the right path!
Complete Beginner’s Guide (Races, Classes, Skills & More)
First things first, let’s talk about races. Your first character will always be a common race—Human, Elf, or Orc. If you want to try your luck at something rarer, you’ll need a race reroll or an extra character slot.
Now, onto the classes:
- Warrior – High damage, tanky, and great for beginners.
- Archer – Strong endgame class with powerful subclasses.
- Mage – Excellent in endgame but tough early on. Best paired with Elf.
- Striker – A close-range brawler with high HP.
- Thief – Agile and PvP-focused with quick attacks.
- Priest – The newest support class with heals, shields, and buffs. Essential for teams.
Once you’ve chosen your class and race, it’s time to jump into the game and start your adventure!

Questing & Progression Tips
The moment you spawn in, grab every quest you see—those question marks are your best friends. Quests give the most XP and help you progress quickly.
Your first stop should be the Adventurer’s Guild, where you can:
- Accept your first quest;
- Join the guild and check your occupation stats;
- Start ranking up through the job board (each rank-up brings a new boss fight!)
Make sure you’re always prepared before taking on mini-bosses!
How to Get Gear
Your gear depends on your class:
- Archers wear leather armor (hunt deer for leather)
- Mages/Priests wear cotton armor
- Warriors need metal armor (mine iron and copper, then smelt it)
For crafting weapons:
- Daggers & Bows require wood—chop pine logs
- Swords & Axes need smelted ore—mine in black slime caves for iron

Character Customization & Races
Customization is straightforward, but races have different passives:
- Elves – Magic-focused
- Orcs – Melee-oriented
New races are still being figured out, but they do matter—so choose wisely!
Classes & Subclasses
At level 30, your class evolves into a specialized subclass:
- Warrior – Greatsword/Axe specialist
- Mage – Advanced magic-user
- Striker – Can become a Monk or another specialized fighter
- Thief – Can specialize into Assassin or Ninja
- Archer – Can become a Beast Tamer or Sharpshooter
Bonus: Rune Slayer allows multi-classing, so experiment with different skill paths!

Early Game Tips
Before you dive into combat, tweak these settings:
- Hide Hair with Helmet – For a clean look
- Hide UI – Great for screenshots
- Damage/Resource Numbers – Toggle them off if distracting
As soon as you can, store your valuables in the bank. If you die, you lose items, and in PvP, players can loot your gear. Don’t risk it! As for quests, prioritize Hive Hunter—it’s an easy early-game quest. Also, tame a Slime as soon as possible by feeding it a Slime Chunk. Slime pets are super useful in early-game—don’t miss out!
