SMITE 2 now has a playable alpha version that you can get in through an invite or by buying one of the founders’ packs. Whether you are on console or just prefer to play with a controller, you may want to adjust some settings first before hopping right into a match. Here is a quick guide to help you with that!
Best Controller Settings Guide
Before we start, make sure to check out our SMITE 2 best settings guide for all of the other settings too, including visual and UI stuff. This guide will primarily be focused on controller-specific and other loosely relevant options.
Gameplay Settings Tab
Under the Gameplay tab, the most significant thing you can change here is cast mode, which is supposedly something you can change per character.
As a controller player, you might feel more comfortable having it set to either quick or instant casting. If you are pretty new to the game, quick casting will let you hold down buttons to aim before releasing to fire. Instant will be much comfier once you’re more experienced.
You might also want to turn on Restrict Camera Pitch, as it can be a little harder to control while playing with sticks as opposed to a mouse.
When it comes to sensitivity, thatwill be purely based on your preference. You will just have to play around with it for a while to see what works best for you. Keep it at the default values to start with, and then gradually change them as you go.
Typically, a lot of experienced players will recommend a sensitivity that is a bit on the higher side of things. This is because it will help you do some quick flicks, especially if enemies use their abilities to go around you.
Finally, don’t touch the Deadzone settings unless you absolutely know what you’re doing. Just leave it as is and you should be totally fine.
Controls Settings
The only other thing to keep in mind that isn’t covered in our more general settings guide are the specific control scheme presets.
Keybinds will be completely subjective, as you would expect, and you should definitely adjust them based on what you find comfortable. For starters, though, you should consider setting it to the Savage preset before personalizing your controls.
This will give you a relatively comfy control scheme that will let you use all of your abilities and whatnot without too much hand movement. Challenger will force you to stop aiming for a brief moment if you want to use abilities.
The use of Savage also assumes that you are using a claw grip, though, which is highly recommended to have almost all buttons covered at all times. If you aren’t used to it, now’s the best time to learn!
Other than that, there really isn’t much advice we can give you in this regard. You will just have to keep playing and see what keybinds you can shift around that make the most sense for you.
That wraps up this whole guide, as there isn’t too much else you can customize specifically for controllers. Hopefully this helps you become a better gamepad player!
