Stardew Valley 1.6: Complete Jellies Guide & How To Get Them

Get your hands on the amazing fish smoker with these Rare Jellies!

With Update 1.6, a whole host of changes have made their way to Stardew Valley. This includes various items and quests that have been added to the game. For example, there is now a new Blue Grass Recipe that you can actually harvest and get.

Quite a few players have also come upon strange Jellies while fishing in the various locations of Stardew Valley. But what exactly do these Jellies do? How can you reliably get them and use them? In this guide, we will show you everything you need to know about them. Let’s dive in!

Complete Jellies Guide

Jellies are a brand new item that has been added as part of Update 1.6. There are multiple kinds of Jellies you can get in the game: Sea Jelly, River Jelly and Cave Jelly. We’ll be looking at each of them and how you can obtain them.

Keep in mind that Jellies are extremely rare, so make sure you check out the full guide to understand how to get them!

After that, we’ll be looking at a really useful recipe in the form of a Fish Smoker that requires you to get all these Jellies.

Also, if you’re planning on selling them, you’re out of luck. Even though the Collection Tab might consider them a Fish, they are not considered Fish at the Fish Shop. So, you will not be able to sell them to Willy.

Instead, you should use them for crafting, which we’ll dive into later. If you’re facing issues with opening the game after Update 1.6, check out your Fix Game Not Opening guide.

Sea Jelly

The first Jelly we’ll be looking at is the Sea Jelly. It is an item that you can obtain from fishing at the Ocean near the Beach. It is available during all the seasons and is the easiest Jelly to acquire.

Sea Jellies provide the following effects:

  • +75 Energy and +33 Health
  • +1 Fishing Buff
  • 7 minute Buff duration.

Most players have reported that the best place to catch Sea Jellies is near the Fish Shop. This is the same Fish Shop where you can find the Willy NPC.

You can also catch Sea Jellies from a Flounder Fish Pond with a population of at least 7. Even then, they are really rare and difficult to get – so you might need to grind quite a bit!

River Jelly

Next up, we will be looking at the River Jelly. The River Jelly is an item that you can obtain from fishing at rivers in Stardew Valley. This item is also available during all the seasons. There are plenty of rivers that you can use, although they are not as frequent or easily accessible as the Sea.

River Jellies provide the following effects:

  • +75 Energy and +33 Health
  • +30 Max Energy
  • 7 minute Buff duration.

There are multiple places where you catch River Jellies. Here are some places that players have reported to find River Jellies at:

  • Midnight Carp Fish Pond with a population of at least 7
  • Pelican Town River near Sam’s House
  • Cindersap Forest.

Catching River Jellies also will depend on your luck. However, after fishing at these locations, you should be able to get some!

Cave Jelly

Last, but not least, we’ll be looking at the Cave Jelly. Cave Jellies are by far the most unique of the bunch – and also the hardest types to find!

The Cave Jelly is an item that you can obtain from fishing at Level 100 of the Mines. Normally, when you are in this location, there is a 5% chance for you to catch trash. However, at level 100, the 5% chance of getting trash will be replaced with a chance to get Cave Jellies.

These odds are not great, so you’ll have to get really lucky to get them. However, you can increase your chances by 5% more for every level of Luck Buff that you apply to yourself. Keep in mind that daily luck does not apply here.

Cave Jellies provide the following effects:

  • +75 Energy and +33 Health
  • +1 Luck
  • 7 minute Buff duration.

In essence, the best way to get them are Lava Eel Fish Ponds with a population of at least 8. And of course, these ponds are only available at Level 100 of The Mines.

If you’re not familiar with this location we have you covered too. Start by going to the opening of The Mines to enter inside.

When you are inside the Mines, go towards the shaft. Here, you’ll be met with a menu where you can choose the Level of the Mine. Choose Level 100.

At Level 100, you’ll come across a large Lava Eel Pond. It is your best chance of catching some Cave Jelly!

Crafting Fish Smoker (Jelly Ingredients)

So, if you can’t really sell Jellies, then what are they good for? Well, you can use Jellies to craft a Fish Smoker. A Fish Smoker is an Artisanal equipment that is used to convert Fish into Smoked Fish. Doing so will instantly double its price from the base price.

Starting off, you’ll need to get the Fish Smoker Recipe. You can do this by purchasing it from Willy at the Fish Shop. The Fish Smoker recipe will cost you 10,000g.

Once you have the Fish Smoker recipe, you can simply craft it with the following ingredients:

  • x1 Sea Jelly
  • x1 River Jelly
  • x1 Cave Jelly
  • x10 Hardwood.

It’s a really useful piece of equipment that can allow you to make a lot of money, especially if you’re into fishing.

That’s everything you need to know about Jellies in Stardew Valley after Update 1.6. As you can see, these Jellies are not as useless as they initially seem. Another new item added to the game are Books of Power. Check out our Books of Power Locations guide to find out more!
