Starsiege Deadzone is a game where you have to work together with other players in order to get valuable resources that will help you survive. However, you will be facing enemy NPC’s and other players, who are all there to fight for the same resources you are after. With that said, you need to be 100% ready for anything that happens while boarding these derelict stations. In this beginner’s guide, I will show you tips and tricks that you need to do when you’re playing a game of Starsiege Deadzone that will definitely help you in more ways than one.

Complete Beginner’s Guide

This beginner’s guide will show you things you can do during a match that will help you understand the game and its mechanics better, as well as things you can do before a match.

Ammo Booster

Now to start off, take note that you will have a Kinetic Weapon and an Energy Weapon. The reason for this is because Kinetic Weapons are mostly useful against other players in PvP combat, while Energy Weapons are good against enemy NPC’s in PvE combat. Having Kinetic Ammo is important, so be sure to have more of that.

If you have an Ammo Boost, use it at the beginning of the match immediately. It will save you from having to worry about Kinetic Ammo in the future when you are fighting against enemy players.

Enemies & What Type of Weapon to Use

When you roam around the stations, you will come across the enemy NPC’s. They are mostly robotic like enemies, which is why using Energy Weapons is recommended against them. However, you can use Kinetic Weapons as well if you don’t have Energy Weapon ammo, but bear in mind that using these weapons is not going to be doing a lot of damage.

I highly recommend you save Energy Weapons for enemy NPC’s and Kinetic Weapons for other players. Some guns can be good for both, but it’s mostly recommended not to waste Energy ammo on players and Kinetic ammo on enemy NPC’s.

Barrels

There are barrels all over the stations, spread out in random places. These are EMP barrels and you can use them to stun both enemy NPC’s and enemy players. While you can lead enemies to these barrels, you can actually also pick them up and throw them at the enemies and shoot it while it’s in midair.

Shoot Out the Lights

When facing against enemy players, you can actually shoot out the lights to either catch them by surprise or escape using the shadows. However, bear in mind that you will also be limiting your vision as well, meaning that you and the enemy player will be stumbling through the dark and quite possibly running into each other unknowingly.

It is still a good tactic to remember when you are chasing enemy players. Just be prepared if the enemy players start shooting out your lights too.

Loot Everything

Don’t forget the reason why you’re in the space station in the first place: to loot. Roam around the station and find boxes and whatever else that contains loot. Loot will range from resources to powerful weapons, so be sure to keep an eye out on loot while playing the game. You can also find and kill enemy players for their loot as well. It’s a lot more challenging since you will be fighting against other human players, but it will be worth it for the loot.

Health & Shield Packs

Health is important in the game, but so is Shields. Shields are your one and only defense before your Health starts taking damage. Make sure to carry an abundance of Shield Packs with you when you play the game. However, don’t just carry Shield Packs. While they are important, having Health Packs with you is recommended as well.

Summon Deadly Robots

If you are getting pushed back into a corner by enemy players, there is actually something you can do that can turn the tide around, but it is also dangerous for you as well. There are control panels in the stations that allows you to summon bots with Elite loot. These bots are incredibly strong, stronger than the normal bots you encounter in the area.

Summoning these bots can be used as a distraction as the enemy players will have no choice but to fight them, as they can easily kill them if they are not aware of them. While that happens, you can use this time to run away and regroup with your other teammates. Bear in mind that these bots will also hurt you if run into them, so be sure to watch where you’re going when you do.

Utilize the Scan Ability

While in the dark, you also have the Scan ability that will tell you if there is anything near you. The Scan ability will send out a scan that will go for about 20 feet around you, which then highlights any enemies it saw with red. Bear in mind that the Scan has a cooldown of 30 seconds, so once you use it, you will have to wait for half a minute to use it again, so use it wisely.

Utilize Your Flashlight

You also have the standard Flashlight, which is useful for when you’re in the dark as well. However, if you have the Flashlight on, then not only can you see what’s in front of you, but so can the enemy players. You will be exposed to the other enemy squads that are in the area, so I recommend only using the Flashlight when it’s 100% safe.

Escape Pods

While you’re playing, remember that the station you are in will not be around forever. While you and other players are inside, the station will slowly be disassembled until there is nothing left. When this happens, you will have to find an Escape Pod to get out. When you do escape, you will keep all of the gear you have on you for the next time you get in a match.

Merchants

In the menu, you will be able to check the Merchants tab. Here, you will be able to make purchases of whatever you want and whatever you need. Here are the merchants available in the game:

  • Juice – He is your Weapons Merchant, and he will offer you weapons of different rarity, all which have different prices.
  • Ghost – She is your Armor Merchant, and she provides you with a variety of armor with different rarity as well.
  • Scooter – This old man is where you buy Health Packs, Shield Packs, and other ammunition for yourself. You can also sell things you don’t need here.
  • Rust – When you collect materials, you will be able to go to Rust to have them salvaged and turned into materials for crafting.
  • Azura – Speaking of Crafting, Azura is where you go when you need to craft weapons and armor.

While it is much easier to buy weapons and armor from the merchants, bear in mind that crafting equipment is significantly better, as you will be able to craft equipment that are not available in the merchant stores. The only downside is that it takes so long and it is difficult to find the materials you need, because you never know when a player will take you out and steal your materials.

Equip Your Gear

After getting your weapons and armor, make sure to equip it in the Character tab. Most people will often forget that when making changes to their loadout, so be sure to remember that you still need to equip what you purchased.

Also, this is how you get your Masteries. They are essentially your perks, and you get these perks by equipping armor that has properties. For example, equipping the Rare Scavenger’s Void Suit will not only grant you 7% Health and Shields, but it will also give you +1 Heavy Armor and Trapper, which will reflect on the Masteries on the right. The more armor you equip with properties, the stronger the Masteries.

Difficulties

There is also other level of difficulties that you can unlock the more you level up. Depending on the security level of the area you choose, you will get better loot, with Ultra Max Security being the top difficulty that offers crazy loot. Here are the different areas you can play in:

  • Kuiper Belt: Frontier – Unlocks from the beginning, Low Security
  • Neptune: Debris Field – Unlocks at level 2, Medium Security
  • Saturn: Salvage Zone – Unlocks at level 2, High Security
  • Jupiter: Graveyard – Unlocks at level 30, Very High Security
  • Mars: Orbital Hulks – Unlocks at level 40, Max Security
  • Earth: AI Bastion – Unlocks at level 50, Ultra Max Security
