In Super League Soccer, you’ll want to know how to play well in different positions in the game. It’s not just all about offensive skill, but defense as well. You can’t land those goals if you don’t have the ball after all! Defending is not passive, it’s an active skill you use to get the ball from the enemy. Knowing this will take you far in the game and your teammates will love you for it.
In this guide, we’ll show you some tips and tricks on Defending in the game. This includes some basics as well as some advanced tricks to master later down the line. Now, let’s see how you defend in the game!
Defending Complete Guide
Defending in Super League Soccer can be difficult because it’s all reactionary. You’re in the defensive after all, and you’ll want to watch your opponent carefully. There are some tips though to trick your opponent into letting their guard down for you to get the ball from them.
Bait and Switch
Never go for a sliding tackle as you go towards your opponent. It rarely works and is easily countered by a skill. Instead, wait for the opponent to use the skill the try to take the ball as he does. This is the basics of defending and advanced players know this.
When you’re against a good player, they’ll know you’re waiting for a skill. What they’ll usually do to counter you is to do a skill then quickly go for a low pass.
This is hard to counter and the only way you can do so is to wait and time your attack. Wait until they go for a skill AND do a low pass then you go in to take the ball.
Targeting Passes
When in a game, don’t just go straight for the person with the ball. This kind of aggressive defense rarely works, instead look for the other members of the enemy team. Try to look for where they’re going to pass the ball and intercept it.
When the enemy goalkeeper has the ball remember that they can’t pass farther than the halfway line even in full power. That means that that the first bounce of the ball often is in the middle, so use that as an estimate.
Passing and Teamwork
Another goal of the defender is to pass the ball! Don’t try to be the super star of the show, you’ll end up just losing the ball.
If you know you can’t keep that ball, like if you’re surrounded by 3 players, go and pass it! It doesn’t matter if it’s inaccurate, just get that ball away from the group and near your team.
Even if there is no clear teammate in an area, as long as you know your team can get to it before the enemy can then pass it there. This is great when passing into a corner so you can team can easily get the ball in certain situations.
Also, remember to pass back to your Goalkeeper if you need to. This is great if it’s getting too frisky in your side of the field. Having control of the ball and ‘resetting’ the field helps.
Insta-passes
Insta-passing is a neat trick to learn but is quite hard to master. To do an insta-pass, you’ll want to wind up a shot before getting the ball, then releasing it as you get the ball. If done correctly, you’ll instantly pass the ball without aiming.
This can be great in situations where you know the enemy will get the ball from you. Deny that chance by doing an insta-pass the moment you get the ball. It’s also great for when the ball is going out of the field.
With those tips you should get better in Defending in Super League Soccer. Now, go out there and try to master these skills! Good luck out there and remember to practice a lot!
