Surprisingly, unlike most shrines, the Yamiyo Shrine in Tears of the Kingdom is a bit different. Though I was expecting another puzzle-based shrine, I found out that the Yamiyo Shrine is combat focused and aims to train the players’ throwing skills.

Anyways, be sure that your timing is on point. Some players might struggle with aiming and throwing part of this combat training, but with my guidance, I can assure you that you will learn quickly and master this combat training. Ready up those throwing hands!

As I said earlier, the Yamiyo Shrine is different from its counterparts. I thought that the shrines are puzzle-based. However, I discovered other shrines are focused on combat training. Yamiyo Shrines falls under combat training. The main similarity of the Shrines in the game is granting the players Light of Blessing. Furthermore, you need to find the Shrine’s location first before you complete the trial. Let’s begin.

How to reach the Shrine

  1. The Shrine is located in the eastern part of Central Hyrule. Between the Hylia River and the Romani Plains. See the picture below. If you’re having trouble navigating the map, check out the coordinates to find your way. Tears of the Kingdom: Yamiyo Shrine Guide
  2. Once you reach the area of the Shrine, you will see the entrance. The entrance is made up of a large stone with green auras in a circular motion above it. Interact with the stone to open the portal leading you inside. Tears of the Kingdom: Yamiyo Shrine Guide
  3. Upon entering the Shrine, a dialogue will start with the shrine guardian, giving the instruction to Link. This is the part where the combat training begins. Ready up! It’s about to begin.

Combat Training Begins

This is the part where you learn how to use throwables in the game. Don’t attack the guardian using your weapons. It is ineffective for the guardian. I will show you the steps on how to complete the combat training with ease. This is like practicing smoke throws in CS: GO

How to Select and Throw the Fire Fruit

  1. First, the controls on how to aim and throw. In addition, the picture below shows the buttons you need to press in order to select and throw a throwable item. This is the easiest part, just memorize the buttons and be ready. Tears of the Kingdom: Yamiyo Shrine Guide
  2. On both sides, there are small trees. Those are Fire fruit trees. Collect the fruits of the trees. Doesn’t matter which tree you pick. The fruits it bears are called Fire fruit. It is a crafting material, specifically for cooking. However, it is used as the training tool for the Yamiyo Shrine guardian. Tears of the Kingdom: Yamiyo Shrine Guide
  3. After collecting enough Fire Fruits. Get ready to start throwing. I suggest you be careful though. The guardian won’t take you lightly. It will shoot arrows at you while trying to hit it with the fruit. Tears of the Kingdom: Yamiyo Shrine Guide
  4. Select the Fire Fruit in your throwable inventory. But first, hit the R BUTTON. DO NOT let go of the R BUTTON yet! Instead, press the UP BUTTON using the D-PAD.   5. Here comes the throwing part. If you don’t feel comfortable throwing at a long distance, there is nothing wrong with getting close to your enemy. I recommend you to get near the guardian, but don’t get too close. Hold the R BUTTON when ready then release your Fire Fruit! PRO TIP: Aim at the center of the guardian’s head.   6. Hitting the guardian will initiate the second part of the training. This time the guardian is moving. This can be a bit tricky, but here’s a simple trick you can do to hit the moving enemy. Wait for the enemy to stop moving for a brief second then throw the Fire Fruit. This can be done by tracking the movement of the enemy. Tears of the Kingdom: Yamiyo Shrine Guide
  7. If you manage to hit the enemy, the gate leading to the Shrine will open. Head towards the shrine to receive your Light of Blessing. Of course, there’s a hidden treasure chest inside the Shrine. Upon entering the Shrine, you will immediately see the chest.
